Quaife LSD install: did u guys buy new bearings? (part numbers?)

i want to have my quaife lsd installed and i was wondering if anyone knows the part numbers for the bearings inside the diff. i looked through the install thread in the DIY thread but i wasnt able to find any part numbers. i do have the part number for the seals though. (A2309970346)

for those of you that have already done this, did u buy new bearings or reuse the ones in your oem diff? i would prefer to get new ones and i believe thats what Brian S. mentioned in his DIY thread as well.

i was given this part number from the shop that told me to reuse it but im not sure if it is correct, because when i had it looked up it came up as an S class part: Universals & rear axle - Drive axles - Differential - Side bearings Side bearings, s500, s600, s55 2000 - 2006 . (A0029801702)

anyways, i called a couple of the dealers in my area and spoke with the parts dept and i was told that i can only buy the diff as one whole unit. they didnt even have a breakdown of the parts inside it.

if anyone has part numbers or feedback on reusing the bearings in their oem diff then please let me know.

thanks!

You can use new bearings which is probably better but I didn't. The diff I used had 5000 miles on it so figured the bearings would not need replacing after that milage. Also it was a donor diff ... if it breaks I just put my oem one back....

I did put in new seals and had the diff installed by Quaife themselves who inspected the diff before the install to check tolerances etc and all was hunky dory ... app they do this on every diff they modify for thier warranty purposes.

Sorry dont have the bearing part numbers...

In Bruce Willis voice from Diehard.

Welcome to the party pal!!!

Yup, Benz won't sell parts to the diff. Just the whole pumpkin.

No new bearings here and thousands of miles later, no trouble.

The part numbers that I gave you are 100% correct. They are tapered bearing for the differential and are used on many MB diffs. List $64 and you need 2.

If you need anymore help with the Quaife install just give me a call!

i just called the parts dept in seattle, wa and i was told that the part number for the bearing that i listed above fits about 78 different mercedes cars. unfortunately he doesnt see the cls on the list (219) but he does see the E class there (211). arent they using the same diff? he said that this is used in the diff of the e55.

my car is already approaching 60,000 miles (93,000 kms) so it might be better to throw in new ones.

thanks bruce! ill try to find somewhere to order them!

Call any MB dealer and they can order them for you. Parts.com has them for $42.55 each. My MB dealer matches Parts.com pricing for me and I don't have to pay shipping!

bearings

you will need the part number as listed above the thread. same part numbers: 230 350 03 49 and 230 350 02 49. these are the bearings for the left and right side of the diff. when you take yours out you will see that one side is indeed thicker just by a very small "smidgen" than the other (right) side. good luck and should be easy install. hardest part maybe those giant circlips!!! damn pita getting those out and putting them back in. take care.

not a pita if you have the right tools for those giant circlips, I have a large knipex internal circlip retaining ring plier, that was a breeze for me.

And yes those are the right part #'s for the bearings.
