Help! Removing secondary cats and put straight pipes in place.

I am considering removing the secondary cats and putting in straight pipes in place of the cats. What do you guys think? Has anyone done this before?

i thin you should start off by removing the resonator and putting a x pipe in it place.

I did it on my C32...pulled the secodaries & the resonator...and it produced the perfect tone.

I did lose some torque.

I have yet to do it on the E55 yet...but quite a few folks here in Atlanta have done it. It makes a MUCH more substantial impact on sound on our 55K's for sure and I don't believe the loss of torque has much of an impact.

My setup is a straight pipe no X no resonator.. Loud like a **** at WOT and you do loose very minimal low end torque like some have mentioned, breathes better for sure and might help up top as well, But currently installing a custom x which i hear gives you a better exhaust note and hopefully pick up the torque a bit..will report back when i do

the x pipe balanced the exhaust gases on both banks, it also creates a vaccum effects as to where the exhaust gases are sucked out from the exhaust manifolds. Atleast this is what i have read about x pipes.

I have headers and an Xpipe.. No cats, or resonators. Torque number are great, car pulls great, and it just sounds amazing!

If i were to do it again, I would install a 3in from the headers all the way back to the exhaust with an xpipe in the middle. I think my pipes are 2.5in.

any sound clips?

Ohh.. and about how much does it cost to do this? I really want my car to sound better but don't want to spend the crazy money of a catback.

Slow
Funny thing... I just had my secondary cats chopped off, They ran pipe to just before the connectors were my resonators used to be. The car actually pullls harder and sounds like a monster when I get on the gas. I'm still thinking about putting an x-pipe on it, from the inside it sounds good. I need to have my wife do a drive by in it for me so I can hear how it sounds from the outside.

I don't have a sound clip of my system. headers $1500, Xpipe $700. Plus a few hunder to install the headers. You can have a shop install a simple xpipe from magnaflow for $100.. I think our car is an exact fit with the pontiac G8?

No resonator or secondary cats either. I personally don't believe the hype about the x pipe over the straight pipe. I would just go with whichever is less expensive. Sounds better for sure!

Thanks for the info & pics....
Im assuming that any Muffler shop can do this right? All I have to tell them is that I want my secondary cats removed, and install a 3" straight pipe with an Xpipe in its place right?
Do you guys run straight pipes from there all the way out or do you guys get them welded to the stock mufflers?

Whatever we're tuning!
I hope I was able to help with your decision Justin.

Have your friend do the pipes like the pics I sent you and it will sound a little more aggressive while cruising but it will BARK when you stomp it!!!
