smoke from hood vent
Good Morning all!
I have parked the 55 for a few weeks waiting on brakes to come in. I cranked her up to move it over to the other side of the garage yesterday and smoke came out of the hood vent when it started. This happened before when I had it parked waiting on tires. The smoke has an oily smell to it. This doesn't seem normal but I figured I would ask on here. Anyone?

Sounds like you have an oil leak or seep and it's burning off from the manifold or elsewhere. Pop the hood and let it run for a while and see if you can pinpoint where it's coming from. Time for new valve cover gaskets, probably.

its your valve cover gasket, it has started to happen to me on my passenger side, its pry more noticeable since it has been dripping while it is parked and then burt off once its started up.

It seems to be coming from the passenger side but I need to get in there and look closer. It used to have a lil puff of smoke every now and then when driving...maybe twice since I bought it. Valve cover gaskets don't seem like a hard thing to replace so I'll get them ordered this weekend with the brakes. Anything special I need to do in order to prepare? ie special tools...

I agree with the valve cover gaskets... Mine were faulty too a few months back... Didn't see any smoke, but definitely smelled when the engine was warmed up... Last I can remember, the parts were rather cheap and there is an excellent DIY here on the forum on how to change them out...

Oil will drip on the headers and thats where the smoke comes from. Please repair the valve cover gaskets before you start a fire.

+1 on valve cover gaskets check the breathers they are little covers on top of valve covers under the coils they can be cleaned and ad a beed of silicone and replace fixed all my leaks good luck.
