Base of xenon bulb melted randomly... what the hell?

So I was driving home tonight, going around a cloverleaf on the interstate and wammo, a "low beam: right" warning message pops up.

I get home and check it out. This is what I find:

What the hell is this? Why would this happen? I'm assuming the entire ballast is dead, is this going to be covered under warranty?

could be the bulb or it could have been a bad connection causing a charge to melt the base over time.

I've had these bulbs for about a year.

Do you think the ballast will be warrantied? If not, how much is a new one?

The car came with factory bixenons, I'm not too concerned about the bulbs being warrantied. I can get another set of bulbs for $50. I'm more worried about this little black and yellow box, if it'll be warrantied, and if not, how much it'll cost to replace.

The way I see it is that the stealer can refuse warranty due to the fact that you put in aftermarket bulbs. Therefore I hope you still have your OEM bulbs and they show a similar issue. Otherwise its GL.

For the little black/yellow box? That's not too bad. Do I need a specific one since the car has bixenons? Where would I order it?

Isn't that part just the bulb adapter..? Your ballast should be like a silver/metal box with a wire to this part...

Ignore that, have you tried swapping your ballast from side to side...? PITA i know, or did the end of the ballast wire melt too..?

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/OEM_HID_Xe...nents_s/32.htm generic Phillips ballast

and I thought they were Bosch ballasts, but I can't find any W211 on here...

Oh, I'm sorry. I meant the igniter.

MB says the bulb itself is $187 (for ONE D2S BULB!!) and the igniter is $177. That seems like absolutely ridiculous prices, how is a single OEM D2S bulb $187?! Who do we use for OEM bulbs? Philips or Osram?

The ballast wires going to the igniter look fine. I am going into the dealer tomorrow, if they won't replace it under warranty I found another Hella igniter online for $70.
