After some quick urgent advice re tyres

I put the E in for a tyre balance and they have just showed me that the tyres (all 4) are all cracking/splitting around the inside join between the tread and the sidewall. Im rather p!ssed about this considering they are all of 9 months old (imported from the US with wheels from a supplier I wont name at the moment who assured me the tyres were all good).

Anyway, Im about to go on a long trip and dont want a blow out for obvious reasons.

My question is - I have been told the Load Rating for the fronts needs to be not below 93 and for the rears not below 97 and Im having trouble (over here) sourcing tyres at short notice. Is this the right load rating?

Many thanks in advance

I think those are the correct quoted ratings, however, many many people pick the tire they want and if the load rating is a little below, just inflate the tires a bit more. Every set I've had on mine has been 93 front 96 back and never a problem. Yeah I know only 1 point, but I'm sure someone will freak and say they weren't safe and I just got lucky. I'm running 19's though. Seems like almost every performance tire is within 1 or 2 points..??

Thanks mate - I can get correct LR for front and yeah 96 for rear which equates to about 20kg less loadrating which is bugger all. I just need to clear it with the insurance company...

cheers

It's funny, because their weight rating is still way over the corner weights...

So are you saying that 93 front and 97 rear is higher than what it should be?

The load ratings required are on the tyre placard (should be on driver door frame or fuel flap). If the tyres are std sizes then it shouldn't be a problem to find the tyres. If you have much lower profile than std tyres that it can become quite difficult to find correctly load rated tyres.

All that it says on the inside of the fuel cap is the OEM standard tyre size, and "high load" which, according to the tyre guys, doesnt mean much. Ultimately after speaking to the insurer they said they dont really care so long as it is "legal".
