Anybody running E85?

I already saw that thread. Whoopdy do you ran E85 in a flex fuel Mercedes. I'm talking about doing things outside the envelope. You ran E85 to save money not make more power. Really? 10% is different than 85%??? Thank God we have a math wizard on the forum to help us out with such difficult math! I guess since nobody else had gone tens on pump gas it means it can't be done since MB didn't make the cars to run that way right? Stick to your slow car and let me have some fun. I do my research before I do stuff (One of the reasons I started this thread which I'm regretting now). I was the first to do several things with my car that other people said can't be done. I have been reading up alot on E85 and it seems cars made after 1995 don't have the issues that most of you are talking about. Worst case scenario you spend under a grand and switch everything over to E85 friendly materials, which at this point I'm not convinced is necessary.
E85 does attract moisture but seperation doesn't occur until 20% of the mix is water. I don't plan on pouring water in my gas tank. E85 does clean out the tank and lines and thats why you change the fuel filter ~500miles after you switch over to E85. Thanks to those that actually gave some input on the subject

Would I run it if it wasn't subsidized? No. For the reason I stated in my posts. BTW, thanx for reading those.

Not on my BENZ, but I have been running E85 on my STI for over 4 years with no problem. I get 405hp on 91, 585hp on E85. They are benefits but you need over 30% fuel capacity. For example, I am running 2 fuel pumps -10 fuel lines and 2000cc injectors to be able to use it. Other thing, the tune takes forever to get it right. I can TUNE my STI myself and that's half the battle. Q16 is a better alternative too if you don't want to mess (much) with your fuel system.
On our cars I belive a surge tank with 3 bosh 044 and 800cc injectors will do. But the tuning might be expensive since there is no open source for our cars. Also e85 don't like 30 degrees weather on start ups. The gas stations mix it with fuel depending on season so you get E85/E80/E75 etc, that change the AFR's by 0.5 in some cases.
If you have any questions let me know. I been using E85 for a while and can talk from experience. Before I forget Our gas tanks are plastic so corrosion is not a problem.

I have a fully bolted on cls 55 and have heating issues..and I heard e85 is a good alternative..but I've also heard a bunch of negative things..407-454-1385 is my cell..just wanting some real experiences...thanks again

It is incredible how little we knew about e85 just 3 years ago...wow. I run e85 in my Cts-v and guys have been running it since 2009 with no issues.
Thunderclaps: Even today I don't know anyone getting 180hp from 'just' E85. Doesn't really make sense! Most guys will tell ya that they gained 40-60whp from 550-600whp cars. Like 10% gains at best. If I could gain what you are claiming then I would be in the 9's for real.

My best so far was 10.6@135 on street tires at 4500 elevation with 525hp to the wheels. The car gain about 40hp per psi 32psi on E85 25psi max on 91(it will knock). The timing is very dif too on E85 I can do 24 deggress at 6krpms on 91 just 10-12.
There is a lot to it and people that just switch without moddifiying the fuel system cant gain much from it. A stock STI I just tuned gain about 40hp, because pass that the injectors will be maxed out.
On our cars V8 SC I can see an easy 50-70hp gain at the same psi with the proper fuel system.

I can make the gap shorter about 120hp but risk my 10k engine on 91 is not an option. Then again The bigger the turbo the larger the gap, I have a GT3582R.
My best so far was 10.6@135 on street tires at 4500 elevation with 525hp to the wheels. The car gain about 40hp per psi 32psi on E85 25psi max on 91(it will knock). The timing is very dif too on E85 I can do 24 deggress at 6krpms on 91 just 10-12.

Anyway, I know enough about e85 to fully understand the timing stuff but if they could set up the AMG cars easily with e85 then it would be a huge difference bc of the cooling especially and of course timing. Do you know what is involved for the AMG's to run on E85 as I am sure that many guys on here want to know? I have heard that it is NOT easy.

I haven't even try to attempt since I cant tune it myself. I wish The E55 had pressurized injectors. We can ask Chawkins, but I bet is very expensive. 10.69 on a Caddy wow, I should have gone that route instead of spending over 15k on my STI. Shifting 5 times on a 1/4 mile can get old real quick, lol.

My Experience with E85 in terms of power is as follows:
C16 Race Gas-516rwhp/635rwtq with a best of 11.0@128mph w/1.58 60ft
E85-552rwhp/708rwtq with a best of 10.84 w/1.65 60ft
All I did to my fuel system with add larger E85 fuel pumps, 1000cc E85 complient injectors, looped fuel rail and opened the inlet side of the rail to 8mm from 5mm. I have not touched the fuel lines yet or installed a E85 complient fuel filter. I am still trying to figure out how to get rid of the stock filer in the sender unit housing.
The fuel itself will not help with IAT problems but you can run ALOT of timing. It does not detonate very easily if at all, but what you have to watch out for is running alot of timing still generates a crap load of heat in the cylinders.
Then there are the ISSUES that you run into with E85 lol. There are alot of pros and cons, it just depends if the headaches are worth it to you. It is hard to beat race gas for $2.90/gallon though.

What "issues" did you see?
Fuel pumps will not always like it. If the internal seals are not viton or flouro-based rubbers, the seals will get a bit soft and move around. I will have to buy a fuel pump or "pumps" to see what the E55 pump looks like.
If the fuel lines are newer flouro-based, they should be okay. Injectors would need to be enlarged as many suggest. More headroom is good anyway.
The Rail looks stainless steel from where I stand. Am I wrong?
The fuel line to the rail looks VERY small. a 30 year old Porsche with 288hp has a line that is 8mm. Strange.
So the system we have on the E55 is a deadhead? And this "loop" feature is just to make a return to the tank? I am trying to find where it is described.
