PLEASE HELP!!!! girlfriend broke down on day 1 of E55 ownership

This is not what I had planned on my first post to be. We live in Toledo and my girl friend went to NC to pick up our new (to us)05 E55 I have been sitting here all day pacing just dying to see it. well she just called me and said that she was driving and the cruise went out, then said coolant stop engine she pulled at the next exit and got gas, topped off the coolant and now it wont even turn over for her. the disply says ABS,ESP and display malfunction, visit workshop.. Please tell my the first time I see my new pride and joy is not going to be after I have to drive 5 hours with a trailer? how can I get her home? PLEASE!!!!!

Sorry to hear that.

Was it a dealer sale or private? If dealer get on the phone have them come out and flatbed it to another dealer (or them if she's still close by.) Except its a Sunday.

But since you're now an official MB owner you do have MB Assist (for the life of the car.) Call them and/or have her call from the car. Let them deal with it and save your money towing.

I have never seen those errors, however the advice is correct, get a dealer to look at this now. If it was me.. (and I am somewhat insane).. I would disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes, and then see if I could limp it home.. I don't want you to get her more stuck, but any service station would likley help disconnect the batery for a few minutes.. Sorry to hear your troubles, and hope things work out and you become a very happy owner!

PPI = Pre purchase inspection.

Sorry to hear about your car. Maybe the dealer can do something for you since you did your PPI with them. Give them a call.

only problem is they are in Charlotte and she is broke down south of cleveland Ohio.. I called MB assist and they are going to send someone out to her> I assume they will want to tow it to the nearest dealer but that is not an option for us because it is to far and I am sure I would be bent over

Never heard of that. She must be pretty far north and no where near 71 I take it. Is she off 23?

she said she got to harley guys to disconnect battery, they waited about 15 minutes and hooked it back up and the car started, SHE SHUT IT OFF to fill it up (keeping in mind it had been sitting @ the gas pump for a couple hours now) and would not restart again

there are 2 batteries -- you may need to disconnect both -- the small one under the hood - passengerside - under a black platic box

that is alot of warning lights -- i dunno where to begin -- could be a battery or alternator problem... i know from experience;;; when that thing goes bad the car becomes haunted with the oddest problems because the batteries control so many things on that car --- that would be my guess -- only because its such an abrupt unslaught of error messages when the car was just fine a moment earlier.

also could be crank position sensor -- if that thing goes bad -- the car wont function at all -- battery and CPS are easy fixes and fairly cheap -- alternator is a ***** -- either way - you should find an indepent shop for repairs -- dealer will rape you

Sorry about your situation. It is a good sign that they were able to get the car restarted. Unfortunately without star diagnostic it gets very hard trying to pinpoint the problem. Hopefully it is something simple as the battery or the alternator.

I don't understand what useless comments about a car's mileage have to do with anything. The M113 engine has proved it's reliability and 99k miles is absolutely nothing to worry about. Apart from this situation I hope that you find it is an easy repair and be on your way to enjoying ownership of the E55.

Did the MB Assist people figure anything out? You may have to get it to a dealer. They won't necessarily rape you, but as Abhatti says you need to get it on the SDS to figure out what's the issue. These cars are pretty decent but the sensors and electrics are way over the top and you need SDS to really diagnose things otherwise you're just swinging blindfolded at a piņata.

And it could be something simple that the dealer can at least get it running even if in limp mode. Or get it to an Indy in the area who has SDS.

Good luck.

p.s., when all is done and the car's home, I'd take it to a good Indy and do a complete PPI. Then you'll know what's up with the car and be prepared. Those "27 point inspections" done by dealers are NOT the same as a PPI. They just take a look at tires, brakes, belts, and the stuff we all can check easy ourselves.

the MB assist guy really had no interest in going out to help her.. told her he can only send a wrecker, I called and talked to him and he said he would be there in 1/2 hour.. he called me back 45 minutes later to ask if I was ready to have it towed to his dealer, I asked what he though it was and he said he had not left yet and could be there in an hour or so, but he can have it towed to the dealer.. told him thanks for all his effort and not to worry about it. I really have NO idea yet what we are going to do.......

did you try to disconnect the battery?
now when you say it doesnot turn over, does it mean the car is not cranking at all? or is it cranking but not starting

Do you have AAA? Have em test the battery,

I would replace the battery , bet it is fine after that.
