Does engine from S55 fits into E55?

Hi!
I am newbie here and i dont speak perfectly english, so please forgive me for that, but i will try my best..
Here is a thing: I have 2003 E55 AMG with M113.990 (totaly damaged) engine. I have a very good offer to buy M113.991 engine from S55 AMG (i think its 2004 MY with only 30k miles on it). It comes with supercharger, but without accesories (alternator, water pump, starter, etc.) Now my question is will that M113.991 engine fits into my E55 AMG without problems or not (especialy bolts, conectors, etc.) and what are the changes between those 2 engines?

Thank you so very much in advance!

Yes it does. As Shardul says the oil pan is different and will require a few changes to accomodate the oil pump from the E55. Give MotorWerks in Houston a call and talk to Sunil, they did this for me earlier this year.

the S also has an additional HE for the S/C from the MB parts application

Guys, thank you so very much for quick answers! I can see that you people on that forum are so good! Hope we will work with each other well in the future.
I had many fast cars in past (BMW M5 E39, BMW 750i, Mercedes R170 SLK BRABUS (300 HP), etc.), but i have never driven W211 E55 AMG (i bought mine with faulty engine, so i never drive it yet). Now tell me, how does it feel when you drive that much power? Is it big difference comparing to for example 400 HP BMW E39 M5? Is the E55 weight (1850 kg) holding back the acceleration a lot?

P.S. I will post here my progress on engine swap (and how exactly is M113.990 comparing to M113.991 / what are the differences). So far, i am thanking you all to help me.

The facts about

O.K. as i promised, i will post my results about parts we need to change/swap to make W220 S55 (or R230 SL55) engine to fit our W211 E55, so no one else will have problems with such a swap like i had (and i think few other members here too). I am making that engine swap myself, so i know every little detail. At the moment i have new (S55) engine already installed in the car with all accesories, i just have to connect all electrical connectors, fule line, fuel injectors, etc. and (hopefully) start the engine...

1. We DONT NEED to change timing chain cover!!! All accessories from E55 will fit without problems to S55 (SL 55) engine. Actualy, covers have THE SAME part numbers on it! There are some E55 cars that have steering pump reservoar on oposite site then we have (we have it on left side). Those ones HAVE to swap timinh chain cover, but those E55 cars are rare!

2. We need to swap both ALU engine mounts (just ALU mounts which bolts directly to engine block, not rubber mounts which mounts onto ALU mounts itself-those are the same!!!)

3. We need to swap oil pan (lower and upper)

4. We need to swap oil pump (our E55 oil pump is totaly different (and also much stronger!!!! then S55/SL55 oil pump)

5. We need to swap 4 bolts from crankshaft, so it fits to E55 oil pump bracket. Those 4 bolts have M5 thread in its heads, so our oil pump bracket bolt into those crank bolts head. If we dont swap those 4 bolts we can not secure (bolt in) oil pump bracket)

6. We need to swap oil level sensor

7. We need to swap left exhaust header (yes, nobody mentioned that before so far, but that is the fact!!!) S55/SL55 left exhaust header have different angle exit then our E55 exhaust header.

8. We need to swap ABC pump for our regular steering pump

9. We need to make M6 thread into timing chain cover (the hole without thread already exist) to secure our steering pump reservoar.

10. We need to swap oil dipstick tube (S55 have different one and also have real dipstick).

11. We need to make M6 thread into head (the hole without thread already exist) to screw in oil dipstick tube. S55 oil stick tube is diferent, so it also have different bracket.

12. If we use S55 supercharger, we need to plug down T fitting from supercharger intercooler metal line. Our metal line T fitting is originaly pluged down (we E55 users use that pluged hole to take the air pokets out of the system (bleed the system) when changing antifreez)

13. If we use S55 supercharger, we need to plug down one hole on the throttle body (ouir TB hole is pluged down originaly with plastic insert) which S55 needs to feed master cylinder with vacuum.

I think thats it. If i remebner anything else, i will post.

P.S. I found out that my first engine blow because one exhaust valve broked!!! Not piston, not piston landing, not rods, but exhaust valve! So because of that i had totaly damaged engine (one broken piston which made a hole in the block, and also broken supercharger because piston parts come into the supercharger and destroyed rotors!! I discovered that one member here also had the same problem (broken exhaust valve which totaly damaged the engine and his engine looked EXACTLY like mine after blow up; here is the link to his engine (mine looked exactly the same): https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-55-motor.html

I will post results when i first start the engine....:-)

EDIT:

BOTH exhaust headers must be swaped for our E%% headers (not just left one, like i posted few days ago).
Yesterday when i try to connect both exhaust headers to primary cats(i already swaped left one few days ago for our E55 header because it was obvious differnece at exit angle, but right one seems to be good from S55 at first glance) , but when try to connect, even the right one didnt want to fit perfectly, so i took him down...And in fact, when i had both right headers (113.990 and 113.991) on the table, the difference in exit angle is very litlle, but it is. I
So both headers should be swaped for our E55 headers if we want to make 113.991 engine to fit our E55.

Also, i discovered that OEM headers are VERY poorly designed... Not even diameter of the 4 main holes is not the same....!!! It varies +- 1,5 mm (in diameter)!!!! Welds are horrible!!!! They restrict flow VERY much! I grind all the welds down, so it is better now, but all in all build quality of stock headers is terible!! No wonder aftermarket headers makes so much gains....

Wow, thanks BACK AT YOU for all this awesome information. I really thought the motors were near plug and play. That is amazing how different they really are.

Thanks again! This is what makes this forum great.
