Question Largest E55 H/E Who Makes It??

I just rebought my old 2006 E55 with 19k on on the odometer. I am not going to turn this thing into a "race only" car because I want to maintain everyday driveability.

So.......I hit "SEARCH" but it appears that no one has discussed which manufacturer makes the biggest heat exchanger that fits in stock location? I can have one fabricated but why reinvent the wheel if anyone here already has that information?

Thanks

I know MBH just came up with a new one for the CLS but I'm not sure if it will fit the E55.

Thanks......sounds like adapting a larger second heat exchanger may be the ticket. I dont understand why the tuners are not adjusting the fan temp settings to come on sooner.

The PLM seems to be an inexpensive option, and bigger, but there just isn't a lot of room there. The MBH will probably be full height, but they have not released any info yet for the E55 version

I don't think my CLS 55 heat exchanger will fit the E55.

why not buy a radiator off of Ebay and just cram it in there? --shouldnt be too difficult to mount - something i have considered -- but seeing that this HOT vegas summer is over - and I survived - I am in no hurry unless the price is excellent.

Being new back to this forum......I would think you would capitalize on what appears to be quite the void. I appears that you have most of the hard work done.

I just installed this one. It is about 2.5x as much square inches as the stock unit. Very cheap. Cruising temps stay about 10-15 degrees above ambient, but my peak temps on full boost dropped about 20 F so I'm pretty happy. This is with a the larger pump that they also sell. My peak temps used to be around 140-150. Now they are about 120-130f.

Can't take credit, got the idea from mdweiss I followed his thread pretty much to the tee.

Hope this helps.

Stock one, JK. But seriously the above HE uses the stock hoses. The hardest part is pulling the bumper and removing the stock HE. Once that is clear all you have to do fasten it with 2 bolts. So I'm not sure if you are going to find anything easier.

Isn't this where you tease us, yet again, about the cooling upgrades for the e55 you are about to release?

J/k man, just curious to hear about what you have up your sleeve.

you don't need a tuner to adjust the fan to come on a bit sooner. "search 10 degree fan mod" and you see that it can be done through star. regardless, that only affects engine temps and not i/c temps since the fans aren't on the h/e.

you won't see any measurable difference between all the larger or piggyback h/e's currently available (the i/c core is the real problem) so just find the best kit for the price and call it a day.

here is my eurocharged H/E its a decent size and anything bigger would make the bumper not fit right.

no, not at all...sorry if i came off that way.

just speaking from experience as i went overboard on the h/e set up years ago to confirm the i/c is the real problem and i don't want anyone to spend unnecessary money like i did.

haters crazy
Not sure if it will fit but before all these companies came out with heat exchangers for these cars I modified an AFCO pro series dual pass HE to fit my car. Just involved cutting and plugging the inlet/outlet. Then welding on (in my case) 1" inlet/outlet on in the correct location. I dont remember what size lines the E55 uses but I upgraded all my lines/hoses to 1"

You are correct sir! HE's will not increase the BTU capacity of the IC's. Larger HE's can only get you to the maximum IC capacity, which will help. That's why SLR's have larger IC's (and a fuel cooler). To my knowledge, only Väth offers replacement IC's (about $6000) which only provides about 3%-5% increase in capacity.
