C32 to E55 soon; keyless go a must have?

Our C32 is fun but small. I talked my wife into test driving a 2006 E55 last week and she fell in love almost instantly, mostly due to the room and comfort (she is still talking about the dynamic seats). We are now researching options pursuant to a search for a clean example to purchase.

The E55 we drove didn't have keyless go and our C32 doesn't have it, but folks that have it seem to rave about it. I dunno what it is, other than it allows you to start and drive the car without inserting a key. Is there more to it than that? Is that single feature way cooler than I imagine? It seems some folks wouldn't buy a car without it; what am I missing?

Thanx!

Since you dont have it now, you wont miss it.

Its a very cool feature IMHO- no keys out of pocket with potential door scratches when you go to open the car. Often when we go to our cars, we have cells, bags, etc in our hands and its nice to just pull the door and get in. If you leave your house but forget something and have to go back in, you can leave the car running and unlock your garage door or front door and go back in without turning off the car.

Is it an absolute dealer breaker; no.

IMHO, I would list Keyless go as a must. My C32 did not have it as well, since it isn't available, but my S has it

Wife and me love it to death, especially opening the doors when you have your hands full of kids.

The dynamic seats in my toy are ALWAYS on. This item should be standard in ALL Mercedes, again IMHO.

All of our next Mercedes will have this one

About the only option that I find worthless is Distronic cruise. Use it once in medium traffic and you will understand. I know some guys here will say that you should NEVER use cruise in traffic, and this I agree, if it is heavy. But have some schmuck ride slowly in the fast lane and try to go for a pass in the right, and wella, your car hits the brakes. Again, for me it is/was Worthless.

*shrug* maybe im weird but I like turning the key to start up the E. My A8 has the keyless go thing, and yea its nice and all but for the sports car (or secondary fun car) which the E55 is for us, i like making it a tactile event.

I would be lost without my keyless go, honestly.

Like has already been said, you've never had keyless go, so it's not like you can miss having it.

If you can find the exact car you want, with keyless go, it's a no brainer, IMO.

Good luck!

It's a convenience feature but a must-have for me. There's a special feeling about approaching, entering, and starting the car without ever holding the key, which also allows me to buckle my seat belt and place my laptop bag down on the passenger side floor all while the engine is cranking on its own.

Not having Keyless go would be a deal killer for me. It is my favorite option on this car. there are so many cars for sale buy the exact car your looking for, you will eventually find it.

It's like a very strong addictive drug, if you haven't had it yet, then it's ok you don't need it... But once you experience it well, then, you have to have it every day of your life.

I hate that my other car doesn't have it, I always feel like a jackass when I try to open the trunk leaving my keys in my pocket lol. It's a really nice feature and if you can find a nice 55k with that option I'd say it's well worth the search.

My car coming up on 8 years old and keyless go is still a crowd pleaser.

Whether car wash, or crowded parking lot, when they see you press the button and the car starts, it's like people have watched the shuttle launch.

Course I am in Utah so it doesn't take a lot to impress people up here.

I never had keyless go before I bought my E55. I'll never buy another car without it. You may not miss it because you've never had it, but you'll never know what you are missing!

Not a deal breaker for me either.... I don't mind using the key. One minor disadvantage I noticed with keyless go is that if you happen to be close to the car and a bunch of people are looking at it and one of them tries to open the door, it will open. This happened to me as I was coming out of a grocery store and saw some kids looking at the car.... as I got closer and pretended that I was looking at the car as well, one of them tried to open the door and of course it opened immediately.

+1 Have keyless go on my Camry Hybrid and definitely not a fan; it may be a different system but I hate that I have to put my foot on the brake to start the car, whenever I get the "key not detected" message and the fact that I can never remember if I locked my car because its always open when I walk back to it. . .

Why not just use keyless entry?

When i was looking for my E55, that was the one option that i definitely wanted on the car. All others came after that until i narrowed my search down. But like others said, since you don't have it now, you won't really know what it's like to have it. But i love the feature. Good luck on your purchase.

My E55 dosen't have keyless go, but I don't mind. I drove two E's right before I bought mine. Both had it and it's pretty nice, but not a deal breaker by any means.

To be honest I love keyless go. I think I have only used the actual key in my car to reset the ecu and that is it. Besides that I never take my key out of my pocket or backpack while at school. I would look to buy a car with as many options as possible because you will not be paying any more for them.

Keyless Go was a must have for me... Searched far and wide and finally got what I wanted. I have never started the car with the key.. Not even sure it works. (Ok, I made sure it works)

I have also not locked key in car. If key is on seat or in center console, when you push the button on the door handle, it won't lock. That is how mine works.

I saw all the people spending big bucks to add options after the fact, and really wanted it all. Only thing I didn't get was Distronic, and I can live without that.

Good luck on your purchase!!

The E is the first car I've owned with keyless go, I didn't think I would like it as much as I do... Now that I've gotten used to it, I really can't go back... When I drive other cars it just feels so weird having to press a button to unlock the car, or to take the keys out of your pocket to start... It will definitely be a deal breaker in future purchases...

+1

While my car was in the shop at Mercedes I got a rental car and had the key in my pocket and was pushing the brake in and pressing on the shift knob lol It did not work to my surprise and I pulled the key out and tried to remember what I was supposed to do with it.

I went C32 -> to E55 ('06 as well).

No keyless go. I wish it did have it just because I like gadgets...but I really don't mind not having it either.

I wouldn't let that be a dealbreaker if I were you.
