Exclamation WHEELS GETTING STOLEN IN NYC, THESE CARS DONT HAVE SHOCK ALARMS ON THE SUSPENTION!

Hey,
I live in a fairly safe neighborhood in new york, however there has been numerous cases of wheel theft in my area.

last year i woke up to find my new m3 sitting on bricks, right in my driveway.

I remember my 2009 sl550 had an alarm that went off anytime the car was jacked up without being unlocked.

Wheel locks no longer help wheel theft and i noticed that my new e63 doesnt siren when the car is lifted or jacked up, i guess theres no shock alarm on these beasts.

I need your help guys, what aftermarkert alarm can i install to protect against wheel theft. all ideas welcome, thanks.

im starting off with two set of wheel locks, whats next.

How about adding these, it's like 20 locks, should stop or drastically slow down anyone wanting your wheels. On top of all that they look really bad *** too.

I got these originally to protect my wheels (I live in NY too) and ever since then it has been hard to keep them on the shelf.

Those are called dual phase lug bolts. You use the little silver tool that comes with the kit to remove the black insert and once the black insert is out you use that special impact tool to go inside the lug bolt to remove them and install them. They look awesome on the car and it is cool to have a lug on the car that is round and not six sided.

We bring all this stuff in from Japan, they really have some neat accesories over there. We are currently bringing in some wheel locks that have a cover on them that needs to be removed in order to take them off. the only way to take the cover off to get to the lug is with a special magnetic tool that magnetically releases the cover. I should have my sample set here in a week and we are going to start testing fitments on the wheels once we get them.

If you have any questions give me a call or just ask here. If you would like a set I usually always have them in stock. They have become very popular sellers for us.

They were around $310 when I got mine from Craig. They are pretty innovative. I'd seriously recommend them. I have no clue as to how someone would go about stealing my wheels. And they look sick.

Pic on the car:

??? You're considering an "aftermarket alarm to prevent your wheels from getting stolen..." which will easily set you back double or triple that for a low system that won't prevent your wheels from getting stolen anyway.

Is $300 too expensive to protect your wheels in a crappy area where you KNOW wheels get stolen?

that's not much more than off the shelf bolts would cost from Mercedes, sounds like cheap protection to me.

Being from So. Cal. you're obviously do not know that area. That "crappy" area still has avarage home price at $1mil in today's crappy market (it was $1.6 mil during peak of 2005). There are also a number of multi million $$$ homes there and several mansions. The "problem" is that there are more expensive cars there than home garages can accomodate - tells you something about wealth of people living in that "crappy" area too. People leave cars overnight not only in their driveways, but sometime on the streets. Granted this area is not what it was 10 to 15 years ago - "squeeze" is taking place like in most places in Brooklyn, but it is still up there. Only in "crappy" areas like these people steelling wheels can find such wide "selection". Yes I'm biased, I'm originally from Mill Basin.

As far as "protecting" wheels. If they realy want them - there is nothing you can do. Worse, they can pull a gun to your head and take the whole car. That is the main reason I moved from a big city. S..t can happen anywhere, but the smaller the place - the smaller the chance.

Well for any of you guys that are interested, we usually have them in stock and they both look great as well as manage to protect your wheels at the same time. I do not think that these lug bolts were originally designed to act as locks because they are made for the Japanese wheel market and theft in Japan is virtually non-existent. These were made for style and it just so happens to add a very, very good level of protection to your wheels at the same time.

They are nothing like regular locks that offer a level of protection but sacrifice in the appearance department. Until now, I don't know anyone with a Benz that has ever really cared what the lugs look like. People buy new rims that appeal to their sense of style but they leave on the old ugly lugs. It's like buying new sneakers and putting in old laces. Now we are selling chrome lug bolts, these lug bolts, getting colored lug bolts and the people that are ordering them are really happy with how it adds to the look of the car.

To warrant the price of these lugs I would expect that you would make the visual appearance of them your priority in choosing them and the the protection that they offer is secondary. If protection is all you want and you don't want to spend this kind of money, I think I could find a way to offer you locks at a more reasonable price that are still unique in how they function.

in my opinion i just want to give them the biggest possible headache and for 310 id rather just buy 5 diffrent types of locks, i didnt mean to offend anyone

Curious... are those going to be able to stop someone with a smaller socket, a sledge hammer, and a breaker bar from simply hammering the socket over the lug nut? Because that's how wheels are usually stolen...

I actually see his point. You can look at it two ways:

1) $310 for 20 small pieces of metal?! (expensive)
2) $310 and probably will not have my wheels stolen (cheap)

I have a wheel lock removal kit and I can easily remove standard wheel locks. If you had five different wheel locks on each wheel with different keys I can almost remove them as quickly as if they were just with a socket with the wheel lock removal kit and not damage anything. They make all these kits for people that leave the locks on when they come to the shop. I can't remove the dual phase bolts with my kit cause the head is to small.

I have some new stuff coming in and, if it fits, I will list them up here by the end of next week. It will probably satisfy those looking for a way to secure their wheels.

The same way you get a stripped lug bolt out. You take a smaller socket and pound it over the bolt with a sledge hammer... attach your breaker bar and pull. That's how thieves defeat wheel locks.
