Taking the GM bailout out of the discussion and concentrating on just the V series...
I dig the car. I haven't driven the coupe, but I have driven the sedan. It reminded me of a hot rodded E55. A little rougher around the edges, but a great car to drive. The interior materials were good but the design leaves something to be desired. The center stack was way too busy and I didn't like the gauge layout.
As far as GM reliability vs. MB reliability, in my experience I have not seen a big difference in the cars I've owned. The service experience makes any MB problems seem minor vs. the hassle of taking a GM vehicle in for service.
