What is the cost to me of new brakes, rotors and Conti tires?
As part of certification on the '06 e55 'm looking at, the dealer put on all new brakes (including rotors), as well as four new factory spec continental tires.
Can someone estimate the value of these items?
We're still negotiating, and i want to know how much that "saves" me from spending myself. Not worried about what it really cost him, but more interested in what it would have cost me to have it done at the dealer.
Thx.

Well, they do say a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client. LOL.
That being said, I sue doctors for a living. Here's the thing...if you can invest $100k or more of your own money into your own case, not get paid anything for the 2-3 years while you work on the case, then risk eating the whole thing if you lose, then more power to ya! Most folks cant.

RE: Service Items
I'd venture the Contis cost them about $800 in house, and the brakes another $600....up that to about $1500 total for good measure....their approx. cost. Retail would be $1K for the tires, $800 for the brakes.
As fyi, the Conti's are IMHO so-so tires, I put Michelin PS2's on mine very shortly after getting it, they were a big improvement.
Good luck with the negotiations.

I just paid a bit over $350 for front pads and rotors shipped top me (Akebono pads). Install was cheap cause I know people.
Dealer wanted $1180 to do the brake job.

Brakes & Rotors Front & Rear $1700
4 Continental Conti C3s $1400-$1500 with Alignment
You also want to take into account the ancillary charges run about $400-$600 for services, filters, brake flush, etc. The warranty also costs the dealer about $1400 when the car is sold as a CPO MB.
If you get a fair deal, take it, good 06 55s are hard to find. Good luck with your purchase.:

New brakes, rotors and tires sounds like about $3k in value...

Looking at getting the Akebono's as well. Where did you order them from?
I'm having a hard time nailing down the right rotor. Looking at stock rotors. I was told parts.com was way to go but it's hard to decipher which ones are correct when searching the site.

Dude, I have no doubt you are right. And it kills me to pay that. But, since I'm not skilled with the wrenches, I'm stuck writing the checks...

IMHO...
$40k is spot on for a refurbished, cherry 06 with all the features and one year of warranty.
Keep in mind you buy from the dealer and you usually get more leverage when it comes time for repairs, loaners, ect. Since you are not inclined to work on your own car, this might be the best option for you.
Also you may try getting them to sell you the MB extended warranty cheaper than retail. It seems they are making money on the car at $40K, so they should be able to give you the extra two (or three) years at their cost in order to seal the deal.
Good luck. There is nothing wrong with paying a bit of a premium for a cream puff like the E55!
