Need Help! Car Cuts out at part throttle.

I was stopped and took off at part throttle, about 20 mph the car completely cut out and bucked hard then smoothed out. I repeated 3x so there is a problem. It happened in all three transmission modes. I also do not think the supercharger is kicking in. I have had the car about 3 weeks and has 62,000 miles on it.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Mark

How low was the fuel level? I recently had the fuel-sending-unit recall done and replaced the other side as well, and now my car does the same thing if the fuel level is low. I had them take the units out and re-check everything and still have the same problem.

I was told that the replacement parts have been redesigned and now have trouble picking up fuel when there is less than 2 gals in the tank.

Hope this helps. If you have plenty of fuel, it could be the IC pump, but mine never bucked violently when the pump went out, just had the acceleration of a 4 cyl.

Yes, I had a full tank of gas and I am in the process of checking the IC pump. Thanks for the info. It felt like the brakes engaged, lost power and a second later everything was back???

Try a search for rough or harsh supercharger engagement

My car does this when the transmission is still cold. I've never had it happen to me if I'd been driving for more than 5 minutes.

I will do the search for supercharger engagement, thanks.

I thought is was doing just when cold, yesterday it happened after driving for an hour.

I think it is the 2/3 shift. It happened when taking off in C also, that is why I say 2/3 shift and always around 20-25 mph.

Did you just get this car?you might be feeling the engagement of the supercharger, mine kicks in hard everytime and I need to ease into the throttle to get it to come on smooth.

Try being in M2 and slowly ease into the throttle and once you feel the s/c on nail it.Its also a good idea to get a scan tool and take a look at your intake temps to see if the car is shutting down the S/C on you.

or now with the colder weather your car is killing major power from the traction control kicking in.

edit just re read your post,it def sounds like a dead pump!!!

Skratch77,

I did just get the car but, have driven them before. I will relook at the pump and check IAT's.

The weather could be a factor, it was 57 out when it happened yesterday. I am taking off normally, no tire slip at all. I was driving like a granny the last time it happened.

Thank you guys for replying. I am going to work on the car tonight.

its the supercharger engaging and its happens more frequently when the car is cold or say mornings.

Try a few things... leave suspension is comfort mode.. and use C mode around town.

S mode in the transmission is more prone to harsh engagement.

clean your airl filters.. find a drill with a 25 torx bit... and you should be able to do this quickly... (autoparts store for the drill bit). I was getting a bit more harsh engagements lately and I cleaned my K&N's and its an improvement.

make sure you intake tubes are properly alighned to the front of the openings.

check if your belt needs replacement..

last.. it could be a older supercharger clutch and when I was given a replacment under warranty, it made engagement smoother.

Try the last thing...
when at a stop light... hold the brake and press the gas to rev up to 1000rpm.. hold for a second. This loads up the supercharger.

When you take off.. the supercharger is already engaged and you should not get the harsh jerk. This can be in S or C mode.
