On dash voltage display

I recently have the "Battery Protection" message and I searched around the net and I found that we can have the voltage showed on the dash. I dont know if it has been posted before but I just want to share what I have found and if possible, tell me the voltage you are getting from the display, therefore I know if it is my alternator going bad, thanks guys.

1. Turn your key to position 1
2. Briefly press the "R" button 3 times
3. You should have the current voltage shown

It will show as an extra manual and you can start your car with it and keep reading the voltage. It will gone if you turn off the car and the next time you want to see the voltage, just to the steps again. The extra manual also showing the engine oil level when engine on as well as the VIN.

Key in Position 1

Depending on the ambient temperature, I typically see 11.9-12.2 volts before startup with key in #2 position, 10.1-10.5 volts while its cranking, and right at 13.9 while the engine is running. I've also found that the voltage displayed is typically .2 volts lower than the actual voltage measured at the battery for whatever reason.

...and you can also monitor the voltage via the heat/ac control.

^^Ali is your car an 06? Mine is and I discovered the button to do the trick on my 06 is to hold the driver side auto button for a while (5 or more seconds i can't recall).

Interesting...I have an 05 and it works great. It must be in the MPH/TEMP display for it to work though.

This method works on my 07 E63, it is the same process used to reset your oil service (FSS Reset)
