Engine Oil Analysis Completed.... 3.5% Water?

So I started using Blackstone Laboratories to analyze my oil to find problems hopefully before they cost me an arm and a leg.

I will have full results by tonight, but they called me directly today to ask some questions as they found 3.5% water in my oil????????

I drained all my oil front and rear pan into a bucket and then took the sample.

just wondering if anyone has seen this or knows what this might be caused by.

The oil only had 3000 miles on it.
I have been changing the oil every $3k until I make sure this car is in good shape since I've only had it since January.

It does have a new fully loaded crankcase put in about 15,000 miles ago.

The only other parameter that was a little off is the copper level was reaching the higher ranges, but he said it could be from the new engine wearing in.

I have an appointment on Monday with Benz to see if they can diagnose anything.

I am also doing the glycol testing for water in my trans lines.

Any reason why there might be water in my oil?

Always take the sample after the car has been driven long enough to bring the oil temperature up to is operating range to eliminate any chance of condensation forming or, if there was water from pevious condensation, it will have boiled off or evaporated. Always take the sample directly from the "drain stream" after about 1/2 the oil has drained. NEVER, NEVER take the sample from a drain bucket! If there is coolant contamination it will show up as "Antifreeze" on the lab report.

Here is a typical report for my 55

I drive the car as my daily driver. At least 35+ miles a day.

Never let it sit, maybe on weekends for a day.

Coolant is level.

I always warm the car up to operating temperature to change the oil and I definitely took a hot sample.

He did not say anything about antifreeze showing up on the report.

He said I would of had it this evening, but not in my email.

Ill post it tomorrow.

Car free at the moment
If you have water but no glycol, it is certainly condensation. Did you let the car idle up to temperature in the driveway for the oil change, or drive it on the road? The oil won't warm as much or as quickly sitting idle, so that could be the source of the water.

A couple of short trips just prior to the oil change could cause it. Short trips don't heat the oil for long enough to evaporate all the condensation.

If you are not loosing coolant, I wouldn't worry much about it. Have it checked next time and I bet it's better.

Well that definitely makes me feel much better. I will double check the level or coolant over the next few weeks.

And yes, I might of done a short trip before oil change and then just let it idle until it got up to running temp.

Next time I will definitely drive the hell out of it before changing the oil.

Hopefully I can post this report sometime today so you guys can analyze it correctly.

Thanks for the info
