Do the rear seats fold down

Do you fella's know if the rear seats on the beast can fold down?

I want access to my sound system from inside the cabin, and could not find any latches to unhook and fold down the seats.

The easiest way to tell is look in trunk, your seats are split in half and you have handles under the rear deck, then yes. If your seat backs are solid then no.

Sunil is right...Two lever handles on each side release the seat if you can...

It's is very easy to tell if you can or not. Watch for split section in the seat and handle.

The image that Peter_02AMG posted shows if you have it or not.

Damn. That's one option I wish I had...the old C32 could swallow a ton of gear with the seats down. I didn't even know it was an option to look for on the E55 because I'd never seen one with that.

With the rear seats folded down, you can actually sleep in the car (head first and feet in the trunk.) Except for the rear roof pillars and back window it's almost like having a wagon.....

Met up with Charlie and Sean at Trousdale. Charlie was way too drunk to even get out of his booth, so Sean and I left him there and walked up Doheny Drive to Winona's house. Sean went home (he and Robin have split up for good now, btw) and so Winona and I drove over to Nobu's in Malibu to drink sake and eat some raw fish-like creatures. We ended pretty buzzed and left at closing. We stumbled over to the lagoon across the PCH where my car was parked. Way too drunk to drive. I had left my cell at Nobu's and Winona didn't even have her purse on her. We couldn't call a town car to pick us up. We sat in the car trying to pass out, but way too uncomfortable. So, I hit the MB roadside assist/Teleaid button and they came out and showed us how to fold down the rear seats. Woke up the next morning and drove home.

The 2006 E-Class brochure says under Seating:

"60/40-split folding 2nd-row seatbacks and flip-forward seat cushions. Rear head restraints automatically retract when seatbacks are released (wagons)"

STANDARD: E350 Wagon and E500 4matic Wagon,
OPTIONAL: E350 Sedan, E320 CDI Sedan, E500 Sedan
NOT AVAILABLE: E55 AMG Sport Sedan.

(Yes, the fold-down seats in my C43 come in very handy, especially when carrying my long-guns case.)

I wonder if they conflict with the Rear Shade option, although I see no footnote indicating a conflict?

(But the Rear Shade option appears only available with the optional Premium Package, which was available for all above stated models.)

Anyone try putting the 2003?-2006 non-AMG "60/40-split folding 2nd-row seatbacks" into a 2003-2006 E55?
