Mercedes S55 AMG
I just did my transmission and motor mounts, too. I was having a rough idle, engine was shaking and vibrating a lot - also, you could see the engine lift higher than normal when accelerated with the hood up and foot on the brake. (A good test to see if yours are bad)
The mounts themselves were $180 each, and the transmission one was $42, so roughly $400 in parts plus a few hours labor. You can get the parts cheaper online, I had it done at a shop and it was around $900 total. (Mercedes quotes even more!)

I paid around $100 a piece for the motor mounts (cost) and 40 or so for the transmission mount. Labor is free. Perks of owning your own auto shop =)

I'm thinking $800 or $900 last time I had a set of motor mounts replaced at the dealer. i did get a free cup of coffee though.

Evo VIII/E55 AMG
All i have to say is WOW It runs and drives like a new car with the new engine mounts and trans mount. No more shaking steering wheel rough idle or side to side shake at idle/start up. I highly recomend more E55 owners to have there mounts checked. WHAT A DIFFERENCE

I get a little vibe on my 63 when rolling out from a dig. Happens from about 1000-1300 rpm. It doesn't happen if I'm hard on the go pedal, just when I'm starting slowly. I was wondering if it was mounts or something ignition related. Car runs like a top otherwise.

I had the dealer tell me one motor mount showed signs of leaking at roughly 40,000. I don’t recall any vibrations or driving feedback at that time. At about 45,000, I had the motor mounts replaced when adding mods. It seemed to make sense that solid mounts would be a good thing since I was adding a few ponies.
I had the motor mounts replaced again last spring at about 70,000 miles. There was a vibration similar to what E55Bullet and Evolved 8 experienced. I thought it was the tranny mount based on things I had read on the forum. The dealer said it was the motor mounts because they were “pancaked” which was the result of a bad install by the shop that installed my mods. The dealer replaced the mounts and the problem was still there. They replaced the tranny mount and the problem was solved.
As I understand it, the liquid filled motor mounts are excellent as far as isolating engine vibration, but certainly will wear out especially on the modded beasts.
