I installed a 3" X-Pipe, deleted the 2nds, and ran a straight pipe through the resonators. The tone down low is much deeper and small blips produces a noticeable V8 sound. Not subtle at all. WOT, it is difficult to tell with all of the other noise the car makes. Neighbor says it sounds much better as I drive down the street away from his house.

^^^^ haha your neighbor knows not to mess with the beast!!!
So, do you recommend taking out the cats and putting in the x-pipe or do you think just removing the resonator produces the majority of the extra sound?

I also have shorties installed which made it a little louder, the combination of everything really came together. I'm happy with it, not loud, not too quiet, just deep.
Neighbor has a 350Z, went for a few 0-130 runs in my car, came back, he has been very quiet since. Other neighbor has a C6 and another a SRT8. Neither wave to me anymore.

cool. I think I will just go with the x-pipe in place of the 2nd cats and straight pipess at the resonators.
Do you think this is a good x-pipe? It is cheap and I do not see how it can be much different from the more expensive magnaflow.

Never thought about the weight savings, but I am sure it can only help! Thx for all the help. The only question I have now is if the shop I am going to will want to take the secondary cats out or if I should even ask in case they might get mad at me saying it is illegal.

true that ^^^. Never thought of that aspect. Got the resonator removed with 3" straight pipes and the loudness did not change at all at idle. I will mention though that when driving the car it is louder, maybe 25% - 35%, and I can hear the exhaust at all times unlike before where it was only at around 1800-2000 RPM's or at WOT. So, I do have sound now throughout the RPM range which is an improvement. Was it anything dramatic, no way, but was it worth a shot and $85? Yes. At least I can sleep well at night
Next, X-Pipe on Friday to finish off the exhaust.

1) replace reso with 3" straights -- honestly, very little diff IMO
2) replace sec cats with 3" straights -- def got a noticeable sound diff, however, butt dyno showed loss of low end torque and got some drone on freeway
3) put in x-pipe where reso used to be -- perfect set-up for my taste. the x-pipe really refined the sound. still the perfect increase in sound IMO but no more drone on freeway and got my low end torque back (based on butt dyno only).
hope this helps

Yeah that helps a lot!!! I am going to do the opposite though and put the x-pipe where the 2nd cats are. I think either way we will probably have the same result with me gaining back my low end torque and having the sound refined and louder. It feels like I am going insane when trying to figure out what was the difference with the before and after, but after listening for a while I do know that there is a difference and it definitely was worth the $85 and fun at the same time, money well spent

Yeah, the car is about 25-35% louder at all times which really makes it perfect sounding and scary at WOT!!! I cannot imagine what it will be like when I install the x-pipe on Monday, but I am going to post a video of my current set-up tomorrow before the x-pipe goes in.

sounds like you're going thru the exact same process i did...here are my steps and impressions along the way:
1) replace reso with 3" straights -- honestly, very little diff IMO
2) replace sec cats with 3" straights -- def got a noticeable sound diff, however, butt dyno showed loss of low end torque and got some drone on freeway
3) put in x-pipe where reso used to be -- perfect set-up for my taste. the x-pipe really refined the sound. still the perfect increase in sound IMO but no more drone on freeway and got my low end torque back (based on butt dyno only).
