Working on a Fixture to align crank pulley

WTB a Damaged M-113 or AMG v-8 Crankshaft

I'm working on another project and need a damaged V-8 Crankshaft, preferred one with bad Rod or main journals. You may contact me here or at

I offen read about pulley installs going wrong. So I'm looking to build and possibly loan out an alignment fixture to get the crank pulley on the crankshaft key correctly, Hell may there is not a need for one of these , but I like to know if it would be a need tool?

IMO the pulley failures we see is due to incorrectly torqueing the crank bolt.

I don't see how it's possible to install the pulley incorrectly. It pushes on by hand, and it will be obvious if it is turned and misses the keyway. A better idea would be to remind people that it takes 148 ft-lbs + 90 degrees to tighten the bolt.

WTB a Crank

Believe me there are way more screw ups out there than we know of. But if I could take some of the element out , It could save some major Dollars. Not everybody has the same feel for the correct engagement. , The key only goes in pulley key way a .125 , Thanks for your input. It will help me from wasting my time to build something that may not be needed.

I think a good tool would be a clear instruction and maybe video for the DIY guy plus a hardened bolt or tool to lock the trasmission. The crank tool seems like a pain and I like to have both my hands free when torquing the bolt down.

I think sometimes installers are just too nervous to put some aZZ on it for lack of a better word. My pulley has been on and off 6 times or more now.

Everytime my tech just uses and new stretch bolt and when it comes to the final torque, just HAMMERS it with huge breaker bar. Gotta be hundreds of pounds of trq but ya know what......she still turns straight a true...no problems.

Put some AZZ on it installers....don't be shy! She wants it!

Lots can go wrong, a key bound torque down will ruin your day.
Good luck Pat, a good solid means to hold the crank and what
ever Fixture you come up with could save many M113K.

Help stomp out pulley wobble, find a crank for PTE.
