Moving on Brakes - Missing Anything?
Guys,
About to move on brakes for me E55 as the sensor just went off yesterday. (I have 45K miles on it.)
Initially I'm not going to buy rotors but if Dyno Comp says I need them based on a micrometer reading (I will ask them to do this first) I'll hold off on the install and go with those.
Here's what I'm getting and price:
Look good?
Thanks.

Here's what I'm getting and price:
- EBC Rear Red Stuff Ceramic Brake Pads front and rear & Motul RBF 600 Brake Fluids @ Horsepowerfreaks.com for $295.18 delivered.
- 2 new front brake sensors and 1 rear one (3 in total) for $16.48 @ Rockauto.com
- 16 packets (4 for each pad) of Genuine MB Brakepad paste at autohausaz.com to be applied on the pads at installation to improve bedding, prevent squeaking for $30.24.
- Total w/o intall = $342.
- Install at Dyno Comp = $200 for 2 hours of labor
- All in = $542.
Look good?
Thanks.

I think that you've may over done it with the brake pad paste. But you can always save it for next time. You probably could have cut it to maybe 8 packets. But better safe then sorry, with that much paste, you shouldn't never brake squeal. If you need rotors check out www.parts.com which I think you might be needing with 45K on the present rotors.

Looks good my friend
A little over kill on the anti squeal, as typically you only need one pack per axle. AKA two in total, but for $4 who cares.
Enjoy the reds as they are my favorite all around pad.
Remember, ALL brake pads require bedding for maximum like, stopping power, and to prevent squealing. There are instructions with the pads, please read them.
PM for a quick bedding procedure that ALWAYS works.

Thanks guys! Yes the paste is only like $1.85 per packet so why the heck not. I remember somebody said here on a previous thread, "Lube the new ceramaic pads up like a **** star!" which got me laughing.
For rotors yes I'll go with parts.com but I figured I'd go to Dyno Comp first with everything in hand BUT the rotors measured with a micrometer. If they say I need new ones, I'll stop the install, buy the rotors from Parts.com and get that going.
Can't hurt to check first as the rotors may still be good.
Thanks very much!

Guys, last question on install. I called a Brakemasters here in Scottsdale AZ and they'd charge me $135 plus tax for the install and flush vs. $200 at Dynocomp. However when I talked to them about the brakepaste (and I told them I had an E55), he told me he'd never heard of that, which spooked me a bit.
I know the MB braking systems is pretty complex so should I go with Dyno Comp for the install even though they're a bit more expensive? Dyno Comp knows E55's very well and I'm all about paying a more for the expertise.
Your advice as always, is appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks Yuille36, 100% agreed. Brakes are a very critical component of our car (or any car when you think about it) that's why I'm buying (In my opinion) the best replacement parts.

Your fortunate in one respect, the E55 front rotrs are one piece as compared to my E63, which are two piece, and expensive. The cheapest I was able to find them for was $630 from parts.com. The dealership wants $930 each, that $2k, with taxes. So when its time for me to replace mine, I'm going with evosport rotors they make both the two-piece front and rear rotors. Which are better than OEM, lighter, more functional as they vent the correct way, and are rebuildable. meaning you can replace the rotor surface with a new one. http://www.evosport.com/product/prod...VO.BRK.M5K.R03
And the biggest benefit of all, is that I can get all 4 rotors for the price of two Mercedes front rotors.

If you need rear rotors let me know. I have a set of nib ones that I never installed as mine were fine.

That's if their the carbon ceramic rotors, the SLS has that brake option. Although they will out last our steel rotors, and offer better braking performance. You would need to take out a second mortgage just to pay for them.

Theeddie, what is, "Star?" Is that a mod of some sort? I currently have the Let Stage 2 tune on it and I'm happy.
Thanks.

NM found it! Basically it's a software package that runs on a laptop and allows you to do all sorts of fun things to the E55.
$2K for it though!
Can't hurt to ask Dyno-Comp if they have this to see what other, "Fun stuff" they could easily do for my beast.
Thanks!

if youre paying the labor to do all this why not change the front rotors along with it?they are like 120 each at the dealer and its like an extra 1 min each side to change out the old ones.
That way you have everything covered.

skratch77 - You make a heck of a point, as the front rotors are key. Parts.com has fronts for $92 each!
Doing that too now!

Your wrong the Star Diagnostic System or (SDS) doesn't cost $2000, but $20,000. It's the tablet PC that Mercedes and independant shop use to hook up to your cars On Board Diagnostic (ODB) to read falut codes and reset the parameters, but it does allot more then just that. You can lower your cars airmatic suspension etc. etc.
