Finally a solution for a backup camera or dvd
I am getting my navigation modded by a guy here in NYC to accept video input( DVD player, ps3 etc and it will have another input for rear view camera with a trigger so you can now finally add a backup camera to the w211 with the older comand
i will post up pictures when i am done anyone has any nice locations for backup camera installs?

This does not include the rearview camera. The backup cameras sell for 30-100$
basicly this modifies your navigation so you can add a backup camera, and adds a video input so you can also add a dvd player.
adding a camera is simple on any car getting video inputs is hard
i will be getting a keyhole camera, and wiring is very simple you plug in video input, and tap into either reverse lights, or reverse gear for signal

I know it's an old post but just wondering if you or anyone else has success in getting the camera work with the Original Command System w/Navigation that was offered in 2007-2008 E-350 with Navigation.

And then a camera (very inexpensive) and you are good.
I have not done this yet because I have contemplated replacing the headunit with a nice double din with much more functionality.

I am contemplating on getting a Garmin Nuvi 2699LMTHD with Garmin BC 30 Wireless Backup Camera . This setup will cost me around $350/ dollars.
Pros: Reliable directions and easy interface w/ lifetime maps, traffic avoidance, USB, micro-SD interfaces with 6" display unlike faded old display of original system
Reliable maps unlike confusing interface of original DVD Command System that came with the car.
Cons: Hassle of mounting it separately and not integrated with original Command DVD System that came with the car.
Any comments ?

The Video interface that you suggested is around $200/ plus I would still need to spend another $20-30 on backup-camera.
