Strange Noise E55 AMG
Hello all! New member here, just purchased a 2006 E55 AMG a few days ago.
After doing a bit of research on the forums here I'm still stumped as to what this noise could be.
I get home from work and park it in the garage and go inside. An hour or so later I go out to the garage to grab something and hear a noise coming from the engine compartment of my vehicle. Every 10 seconds I hear a noise that sounds like an old school printer zipping back and forth, the noise lasts approximately 2 seconds, then repeats 10 seconds later.
I start the vehicle, and feel the front end of the car raise. I've never noticed this before. Does the vehicle drop down while parked and then raise back up when started? Could the noise be an airmatic issue?
Has anyone else heard this type of noise before and knows what is causing it. The PPI checked out fine, but now I'm wondering if I should take it back in for another inspection.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

After shutting the car off I no longer am hearing the noise. Gremlins?
I stood there for about 5 minutes listening to this noise that would occur every 10 seconds, without fail. Very odd...

Interesting...maybe you have a leak? My airmatic pump rarely ever goes on with the car off ( it does sometimes but maybe once every few hours or so ). As a matter of fact, I get in the car the following morning and the car doesn't have to level it's self out like the op's does.

Thanks for the replies! I got in the car this morning and it didn't have to level itself out. Perhaps it's beginning to fail? Should I leave it be for now as someone here mentioned, or take it in and have it looked at?

Do this. Taking these cars in for something that seems weird that may have partially failed typically results in no issues being found and a lot of wasted time and effort. If it is really an issue it will get worse and worse until something is definitely broken(or nearly broken), which makes diagnosis far easier.

My 55 is stored for 6 months each year while we're at our other home. There is a battery maintainer connected, but at some unknown time into the storage period the Airmatic system deflates. The moment I turn on the ignition I get the "RED AIRMATIC WARNING", the air pump immediately turns on and all is once again normal. I suspect there is a programmed system shutdown if the ECU sees no activity after a specific time.
