E55 / E550 Encounter

I am an E550 4matic owner and encountered an E55 yesterday on the highway. With both of us going about 60 mph and punching it he pulled away so fast I might as well have been driving a go cart. Not to say this wasn't expected given the differences in HP and Torque between the two but I was amazed at the pull of the E55. The 550 is no slouch compared to most cars out there but that E55 was simply a beast. I would have purchased an E55 myself had it not been for the fact that I live in a cold weather climate where snow is always a concern. If we don't get much of it this year I will be regretting not getting the E55 which I personally prefer to the E63. Congrats to all you E55 owners that is one impressive machine.

Thanks. There are quite a few members on here drive their E55 in the snow. With proper snow tires the E55 can be very fun.

i was in the same scenario as the OP. Bought a 4matic for the winter weather and ended up getting an E55 as well.

Yeah but I bet you were more comfortable getting your *** kicked than other drivers have been losing to an E55!

I'm just trying to compliment you on your rides gentlemen. If I move to a warmer climate then will go for the E55 (if I can find a decent one w/ lower mileage) but until then the E550 4Matic will do just fine for me and I guess I will have to just continue to get "owned" by you guys w/ the E55's.

Never. Std sport pkg although may look into an ECU upgrade to squeeze out a little more power

thanks for sharing your story...

E550 W211 is a fine car.. most people buy the E350 and think an AMG badge makes them faster.

but.. in about 12 months.. you will be able to get a 4.6TT E550 W212...

and you will able to get 4-matic... (for those if colder climates)

I think that would be my next move.. over a used CTS-V, Audi S4, Bmw 550 4.4tt, or even used E63.

Either a E550 coupe or sedan, silver and add some AMG 19's, Chipped and mild exhaust mods. Should give around the same HP as my current E55.

The 5.5TT AMG will be out of my reach for a few more years.

I did the same easily to a W212 E550 with my W211 E63. Don't discount the E63 if you like a NA motor.

But I agree, wait until the W212 E550 gets the new motor. With proper mods and a tune you could turn it into a W211 E55.

The new F10 BMW 550i has the TT V8 now and people are talking about easily turning it into a M5 beater. It'll be interesting to see if the new E550 will be really close to new E63 TT after some tuning, and the new BMW 550i will be close to the upcoming new M5, too.
