Check Engine Light/ HELP
I just bought the car yesterday drove for about 100 miles with no problem. I went to put gas in the car which the only thing I have done. Started the car twice since then and check engine light came on, NO MALFUNCTIONS. Any body have any suggestions on where to begin. Thanks in advance

try and find somebody with a Star diag. system. hard to diagnose a car with that much technology based on one light, but first thing you should try is to remove the fuel cap and screw it in tightly again, happens to me and will throw a CEL.

Check Engine
The car was sitting for months with the same fuel which when I bought it had a quarter tank. I figured to run through the old and went today to Sunoco and put ultra (93 Octane). After about 7 miles the check engine light went on after I restarted the car. Figuring has to do with the cap or gas any ideas. Thanks

more often than not, an emission related issue. no need for Star intervention
yet. just find a buddy with an OBDII reader and pull the diagnostic trouble
code to get a clue to the ailment

Im going to have the car looked at tomorrow with the right equipment. Just curious if it was the gas or gas cap possibly. What would happen if I disconnect the battery to reset if that even works to see if the light comes back on. Or am I going to waste my time and look for a half *** solution. thanks for the quick replies and help

If you go to any auto parts store they should be able to check the code or at least give the the code number.

If the MIL comes on immediately after filling with fuel, it is almost certain the problem is the gas cap is not screwed on all the way. Turn it until it clicks several times. Then drive the car. It will not turn off immediately, several start/drive/stop cycles are required.

I hope its something simple since you just bought the car and only drove it 100 miles. They could of just cleared any codes the car had before selling it.
This is a stage 5 car right?Im hoping its just a gas cap bro.

SOLD 04 E55 Now 93 w124 3.2 sold W210 E55 sold waiting on W211 E63 p030
If it was the gas cap, it would have said so in red on the dash. Mine has done that several times. Now the question is ...... when your were filling her up, was the engine running? Also... you may want to check for a vacuum leak, that happened to me also. As the motor is running check behind the left side of the motor. That's were I found my leak.

I had the same problem with intermittent check engine light. Car drove fine so I opened the hood and found the driver side intake was slightly off leaking some air.
No more check engine light since. You might want to take a close look in the engine bay for little things like that.

Did it say coolant temp too low?find out if your car has a different sensor or if they lowered the temp in star.
If there is also water wetter in the coolant that might throw the code also in the winter.

probably tstat is stuck open. it is about 80 bucks at the dealership. very easy to chage. remove s/c belt, remove hose connected to tstat neck, undo the 2 bolts and it comes right off.

Mine threw that code twice but never again. Maybe the system learned this was normal and just logged it as an error and no longer a CEL. I plugged in my SDS and it's there sometimes but no biggie. I've got a modified t-stat and it didn't show until the weather got freakishly cold around here. Maybe a month ago. My car has 102K miles on it, no warranty, and I'm not concerned at all.

With the
super cold weather you are having back east the engine is not coming into operating temp fast enough.
You need to get it to a tuner or shop with knowledge using star diagnostics and raise the temp.
Don't disconnect the battery it will only clear the light and mask the issues.
Get it on the scanner My guess it is not getting up to even 170f (76c)
and that won't do.What temp does it show on the dash?
You could put a cardboard sheet behind the grill like days of old and that will raise the temp while driving till you get it scanned.
if its been Rennteched most likely it was done in star programing you might want to find out from the po who did the tune and take it to that shop.
Last thing. Did you have it inspected by a pro before buying the car?
If so they should have scanned it and seen the stored code someone obviously erased.

CEL Light
Yes it did say low, and it is freakin really cold, what would be the next step from here. The temperature guage has not moved from normal temp when the car is warmed up, since the CEL going off.

I wouldnt worry about it,we are getting very cold temps right now and its just not hitting its normal temp fast enough.
I got the same code last winter but I lowered my temps 10d to keep it cooler in the summer.I got the code thrown just once last year.
reset it and see if it comes back.

The system that
tests how long the engine takes to get up to normal operating temp
is detecting that the time period is to long.
You must be freezing in the cabin if you have the heat on high and it is taking 20 minutes to warm up.
Find the tuner find out if the system was modded in menu or if a low temp t stat was used. per one of the members above
It won't hurt anything but your mpg but you will need to get it fixed before you try to get it smog tested.
Slap a pizza box flattened out and zip tie it inside the grill meanwhile

CEL
First I wanted to thank you guys for all the help, second I just went over to have my buddy reset to see if it comes back. I have not timed how long it takes to warm up however I had a cls55 and the time seems about right. The cabin stays warm when you have garage at the house and office. The CEL light went on for the first time after I went out to dinner the other night and the car sat for a few hours and was dead cold and single digit temp. outside. So time will tell.

and today.. battery is drained...
its been a crazy past 45 days with this car. Lucky I still have Chrysler warranty. So far about $8k in repairs in the last 45 days.
Overall.. i'm about $15k with Chrysler warranty.
