Hesitation at Low RPM
I've read a few threads on this but I'm still not sure I have a handle on what could be possibly causing this.
Whenever starting from a dig or rolling at low speed, <15 mph, and I stomp on the gas, there is a slight hesitation at around 1500-1700 RPM, just for a second or so, enough to throw my head forward, then the car quickly takes off again as if nothing happened.
Any one had this issue and correctly diagnosed the problem? Thanks for the help!

Are you in s/c/m?
While in those modes, how are you driving, ie: Drive/Manual?
I've only gotten that kind of jerk when I first got the car and would try and floor it in sport mode "D".
I think it's just the car's weird shifting, though I could be wrong.
I physically shift up and down when driving in sport and since I cruise around in 2nd and you don't really "floor" e55's.

In "S" I can put it in second and it will hold second until I decide to shift.
And when I mean D or M when you are in sport mode I am referring to whether you are leaving it in "D" while driving or shifting while still staying in sport mode.
I've found that In sport mode on "D" there is a hesitation but when I am in sport mode and shifting myself I experienced no hesitation.

When I'm shifting manually in sport mode It holds the gears until I shift period.
So yes even when you redline it will not shift until you do it yourself/
Unless you are in "D" that is...
The reason I prefer sport is because manual mode does not hold gears contrary to its title, if the rpms drop low enough it will auto-downshift which ruins the fun of cruising around in second and hearing the exhaust when you let off the gas.

yea i always hated how it shifted down automatically in m, although i recall i did try shifting in S with the paddles on the wheel with no response, is it only with the gear selector?

Pretty sure mine downshifts on its own in M and S and even C,its supposed to or the engine will stall.
Like if your in second doing 20 and slow down it will go to first no matter what,if it didnt the rmps would be forced to go to like 200 and make it stall.
Oh and for the op,its the traction control thinking on how much torque limit it wants to give you before you end up sideways.

Not trying to insult you or anything, but I know for a fact that is completely wrong.
I do my daily driving cruising around in 2nd gear and I can go anywhere between 0-70 easily without any shifts and it does not stall the engine.
Even in heavy traffic in 2nd gear when I come to a complete stop and then let off the brakes to roll slowly there is no stall.
You did say you were pretty sure so I'm guessing you are just mixing up M mode and S mode because I am 100% sure, it's how I drive on a daily basis.

Thanks! Is it supposed to do that even if I'm not flogging on the throttle? I still notice it simply cruising about town, but it's not as pronounced, same RPM range however.

E63,,,not any more,,,BMW X5 50i
If you look at some of the posts here, hesitation is one of the major complaints. Driving a "63", mine is still not fixed. I read on the SLS board, where you have a guy in a new SLS with the same fault. Probably electronics, but what???? I think adaptations is probably the key!

Auto downshifting in M mode should only happen when the engine approaches stall speed in that gear, otherwise the gear should be held... trailing throttle in second gear as you decrease speed does sound pretty in a tunnel
The holding of gear on upshift varies across year models and EGS tunes. For example my OEM 06 would hit limiter in manual, and auto upshift in S at pretty much power peak. Now with Kleemann EGS "mod" (for 2.82 diff and sharper shifts), even in manual I cannot hit the limiter, which is not necesarily a bad thing, as hitting the limiter in first cannot be good for anything. Auto upshift in S is fair enough. C ? who ever uses C?
I was going to say the title is a contradiction in terms for this car but figured it was either car shifting to 1st from second or ESP.
