Airmatic failure poll
Guys,
The object of this poll is as follows:
a)-I want to see if stock airmatic fails at the same rate or not ?
b)-I would also like to know if lowering the car has to do anything with higher suspension stress causing such failure or not ?
c)-Lastly,i would also like to know if the type of warranty (OEM /CPO VS Extended warranty has any thing to do with these failures or not?
Could Mercedes mechanics ( since that's where every one is taking their cars to ) be diagnosing/replacing the airmatic suspension more often when the owner has an extended warranty or is the replacement rate the same with OEM/CPO warranty ?
After casting your vote please post a comment as well like, how many miles on the car and how many miles on modified susp when it failed.
All owners of airmatic equipped Mercedes please chime in.
Mine is an '06 with 42,000 miles, stock suspension with out any issues.
Thanks

Have we not gone down this raod before. This suprises me from you. What the hell does a warranty and failure have to do with anything? Why just 211s, there are other airmatic cars lowered and with and without failure.

Yes i am surprised myself too but i think once you see the content of the poll you will agree with me.
I personally think we need to know if the mechanics are overly charging/overly diagnosing the airmatic failures or not ? It will also tell us if there's one particular type of lowering module that's culprit ? I will however edit the W211 AMG to just general airmatic failures.
I personally know 3-4 friends with W211 AMG and none of them have had any issues with their airmatics but here on the forum it seems like it's just too prevelant, why ?
If we need to modify the poll please let me know and we can do that.
Please comment ?
Thanks

Unless you pole the over 10,000 MB customers with airmatic, this thread is worthless. People come to forums to complain or to find info on a issue. So really this pole will tell you nothing in the end.

Yep, lets sit back and watch you winey little *****es cry about what a piece of crap the airmatic is but yet you tools still drive the cars. If you cant afford to fix them and you want to sit around and complain what a piece of crap they are, why dont you go buy a Camry or an Accord. I can only hope this worthless pole shows what crap they suspension is and you all sell.

I have to agree somewhat with Emoving. this pole has some good information, but its very misleading without ALL the airmatic 55s voting. so although it can appear as though all the failures are on 'supped up' suspensions, what about the other 9,980 peoples setup? I know that your trying to see what causes it, but theres just too many variables, i.e. weather, road conditions, frequency of use, setup, and even driving style.. just my $0.02

fwiw, you probably should also have your poll include all your listed variables plus the model years of all the W211s. The airmatic components have been revised by MB's vendor over the years.
Aside from all your polling, maybe just figure that Airmatic costs are part of having an air suspension system in a Mercedes. Like the $3000 spark plug change on a F430 or the $800 oil change on a 360 Modena (every 5k miles.)
Like they say in the F-car world, "you shouldn’t own one if cost of ownership is something you think about."
There are plenty of other fast cars you could choose to own if Airmatic makes you so squeamish.

I started this poll not to see how problematic or how expensive the air suspension is but to see
a)- If lowering the car has anything to do with the airmatic failure ?
b)- If having a non mercedes extended warranty has anyhthing to do with replacment of the airmatic suspension. I have a feeling shops probably see extended warranty as an open check book and charge what ever they can ?
I am sure we have pretty noticeable number of AMG owners here on the forum or else we won't have ran Chrysler Service Contract out of buisness
Yes there could be several other variables like, the geographical location, track use and road conditions etc etc but the common issues still seems to be the lowering and having the extended warranty ?

Wait....lowering the car by compressing the air struts beyond what they were originally engineered to do may eventually increase the chances of those parts failing.....I am in complete shock.
Damn this is a stupid thread.
