9.8mpg all city driving. At sea level. Takes as long to let the car warm up as it does to drive to the hospital though.

Well done Walter! BTW I got the E63 Cluster figured out, no fault warnigs or anything. I'm just waiting on a device to flash the cluster EEPROM back to a virgin EEPROM and then I'll have mileage

Mercedes S55 AMG
Nicely done! I for one like putting miles on my car, I think part of me wants to see how far it can go. (157,000 on my S55 now, running as strong as ever!)

You actually can get decent mpg with these cars when you want to. I can get 17-19 in the city by behaving. And 23+ on the freeway with a steady cruise speed. The 7 speed tranny in the E63s also helps a lot.

Exactly !!! If you do the right maintenance you will be trouble free ... my last service was 1,000 miles ago, always dealer service, one tip... everytime you drop your car at the dealer tell straight the service advisor (before anything happend) I mean BEFORE.... if the mechanic find something wrong DO NOT touch anything... call me, I will drive to you and you will show me what is wrong.... if I can see it or feel it you fix it, if I can't see it or can't feel it will be my choice... then you can remmember him.... who pay the bill? are you agree?

You Got it !!! Nice pictures.... !! good for you... I guess I'm done with my E63 conversion... maybe just the new style steering wheel !!! love the cluster but I was frustrate because I didn't have any shop close to me or somebody to help me with programming (not agree to drive 500 miles round trip to try it), the good thing is that you have it !! cluster is in good hands !!

Send DIY/instructions/or pictures when you re-program ... if you can

I know !!! ... all the time... who have problems with this, who have problems with that... who get the engine blow, how many have the airmatic fail, how many have a trans leak, how many have gas inside of the cabin... be ready to explote... !!! that stress me out !! yeah sometimes is good to know because you can identify any problem fast reading this ..... but what about the free of problems cars??? how many have free of problems cars? of course... don't think on common problems like brakes, coolant change, tires or how expensive is service B ... compare to your Yugo or your honda civic (I have a Commuter honda civic before... good gas milage, don't take it bad)

[QUOTE=220S;4512454]I don't know why these cars won't last with proper maintenance. In Europe you see them with high mileage.

Because in Europe when they hit 200,000 it is KM not Miles 1 KM = 1.6 Miles 200,000 = 125,000 miles

Well, with use, time, and age, there will be stuff that needs to be replaced. The good thing about these Mercedes, is that once you replace something, it comes back to being like new again.

The important parts of the car, like the engine and transmission, seem to be pretty good - it's just all of the supporting systems that you have to change out over time. (motor mounts, misc electronics, sensors that fail, etc)

You think its bad that I often use M to ride the torque curve at full throttle?

Duh, I know that it's km.
But I'm still talking about high 'mileage' or kilometers or whatever unit you want to use.

In the US people lease and tend to flip cars and the whole maintenance thing is something most of them don't want to mess with. BMWUSA's "free" maintenance also promotes the "don't need to ever touch your car" mentality. And they just upped the OCI on their cars to 12k miles.

Currently sitting at 102K with no worries. I've put 40K on it in under 2 years with only minor repairs.
