E63 AMG
It appears there are some E55's with good reliability and 100k+ miles.

Assuming that I maintain my car as required and drive it reasonably well (no burnouts, racing or aggressive/hard driving) , should I expect equal to or better reliability with my 2007 E63?

nardeezy - just maintain the car according to the schedule for all parts, i.e oil changes, other fluid changes, always check motor mounts/suspension parts, etc - and you should be fine. My S55 has 157,000 miles and while I never abuse it or do burnouts, I do drive it a lot and aggressively at times, and it puts up with it well enough!

Yesterday I test "comfort trans", just checking if it's true about you can save gas setting comfort trans... well not bad at all, it is true... same speed, same freeway, almost same conditions... temp a little higher... results.... 24 MPG !!! average of 65-70 MPH....

How in the hell are you guys getting 24 mpg? I babied mine on a 60 mile trip recently, just to see what I could get. 90% highway. Best I could do was 18. In the city, driving miss daisy, I'm getting 14.

and location plays a role to, also mods, temp, speed, RPM, gear, tires, tire inflations, all that plays a role.

I get all that, I just don't think ill ever get above 20. Heck, my Renntech setup is supposed to give me +2, according to their website. Oh well. No biggie, however, it would be nice to see 20, just for grins. Im making a trip this weekend. Will have to see what I can do.

AMG
add some air to your tires assuming you have room to, cruise about 65mph in fifth with CC on no ac or heat and watch the mpg's fly

Exactly! for this reason I test it.... but numbers change 5th gear C or S don't make any defference, same gear... maybe on "S" gear change more often to 4th ... I don't know... but for me from now... you can save some gas on "c" mode...

That's pretty damn cool. Lots of you guys seem to pile up the miles on your cars, beat the hell out of them with spirited driving, and mod them, which in itself is a testament to the dependability of these cars.

Never knew about those "stripes", that's a nice touch by M-B, hopefully they're still utilizing those in their newer cars. In this day of high tech, Leasing-then-dispose culture, where it almost can seem like car manufacturers don't put any effort into thinking long-term-dependability, it's nice too see M-B still showing signs of being proud of their cars standing up to the test of time, even through little signs like those "stripes".

Yeah I wanna know how you are getting 15mpg on mixed driving? In sport I get about 10.3MPG or so and comfort I get about 11.8MPG. My average tank lasts well below 300 Miles! I have K&N and Filter Delete too!

Comfort driving is a totally different animal than sport. Comfort does prove to be helpful in wet weather when getting on the car at 50mph +.

Lighten up on the go pedal for a while and you should get 17-19 easy. The 7 speed helps a lot with mpg over the previous 5 speed. Try driving like an old lady using C mode for a while and get the tranny to adapt to lower shift points. Then put it in S mode and drive the way you like to get it to adapt with higher rpms. Then just switch back and forth; the mpg goes way down over 3.5k rpms or so and when doing a lot of throttle stabs at the lights, etc.. Keeping rpms down will improve mpg a lot.
