"Thud" Noise Coming From Rear 08 E63AMG During Deceleration
Greetings,
I've been a lurker around the forum for a while and was blessed enough to purchase my first AMG the other day. What an amazing vehicle. I found a pristine P30 optioned one with about 25K on the odometer. One quick question: I noticed that sometimes when I come off the accelerator I hear a "clunk" or "thud" coming from the rear end of the car. I would imagine that it might be the LSD. Is this a normal occurance or should I have this check while still under warranty? I certainly don't want to knee-jerk and start a panic over nothing, but I did want to check with the community of experts first to educate my self a bit.
I appreciate it very much.

Any ideas on this one? I see a few threads about "the body in the trunk" but not sure we are talking about the same thing. When i come off the gas and decelerate i hear a thump in the back. Shocks? LImited Slip?

Thanks Q.
I called my MB dealership and they said that a "Master Tech" would have to ride with me to listen for it. I'll give it a try in a month or two if it gets annoying. It's a sporatic thing.
It just sounds like someone slams their hand down on the floor of the trunk. It's happening when the car isn't under any kind of stress and driving on a perfectly flat road with smooth pavement. Very strange.

I get a thud when driving over speed bumps, but that just the rear air spring bounding back after compression. but sometimes it does feel think something is losse, but I've had my car on the lift numerous times, and nothing is loose. Nothing loose with rear subframe bolts, or suspension linkages. I thought that I was going crazy there for awhile, when i first bought me E63, as I wasn't used to the airmatic suspension.
It's totally different from the standard spring suspension that on my C63.

One thing you should do is have the dealer validate that the LSD oil was changed when it was between 1500 and 2000 miles.
If not, do it. You can find my DIY somewhere.
