good work buddy, sounds like it is going to work with the correct coding.

This is really cool. If the Mopar tcm does work with no errors then it should also be programmable with the Mopar flash tuners for different ratios. I have been wondering about the Richmond gears in the Mercedes differentials for a few years for my car. I was looking to get a 210mm differential from a clk55 and install a quaife with 3.55 gears. This would be fantastic. Richmond will give you the specs for the gears and bearings etc. But there are no such specs for Mercedes. You just have to try.
I have found out some more interesting info.
Seems like the TCM Control for gear ratio is set by the FCM in the LX cars. Basically the FCM sends a new value to the TCM for the control bit and it remembers that even if it's moved to another car. What this leads me to beleive is that if you take an AMG TCM, plug it into an LX car, and use a predator to quick adjust that bit without updating the programming, only that bit should change, then you could put it back into your amg and all should be happy.
I happen to have my fathers 300c to be able to try this. My next test will be to put my AMG TCM into the 300c and see if it is recognized. If that works, then I need to buy a predator and do some testing. I actually think this is going to be the best way to do this.
Stay tuned...

Onto the next interesting question from a non AMG guy.....does anybody know if the pumpkin being discussed here will bolt into an E320 CDI. If it will would I need to change axles as I believe that the AMG cars had a larger diameter axle.
Can anybody confirm this?

can't confirm anything but you touched on the follow-up thread if this works...changing axles! people are either going to become extremely efficient at it or have to find someone willing to produce some upgraded versions (which has been difficult so far).Originally Posted by Petej

I learned this from my other car......horsepower does not break as many parts as torque does and lots of torque at low RPM is even worse. That being said the latest issue of HotRod has a great article on what breaks on the 08-11
Dodge cars which contain many of the same parts as our cars. They do call out some companies that make axles for the Dodges using the 09 and up Getrag 226mm rear end.
Heck the easy answer my be the ford 9" retrofit kit they talk about in the article

I would imagine you have a HAG 210mm diff not the 215mm version. 215 was for AMG cars and SRT8's. You will probably need custom driveshafts with the 215mm splines on the diff side of the axle, and whatever the stock hubs are. on the other side. Not impossible, but probably not bolt in like it will be in an AMG.
Interestingly it looks like the halfshafts on LX cars look mighty similar to the AMG ones too. If the turn out to be the same there are up to 1500hp+ rated axles available for the LXcars from DSS and other vendors.
I hope are american cousins are that accomodating.

how about the axle flange that bolts to the half shafts and inserts into the pumkin? i've twisted one of those off in the diff also.

Or I find one of these out of a later model Challenger that had the Getrag 226....Originally Posted by KLR CLS

Or you can keep an eye on http://car-part.com and search for a 2009 Challanger, you may be surprised what you find.....like a complete rear axle with a 3.06 ratio for $1000
If you want new:
http://www.modernmuscleperformance.c.../5038293ad.htm
I just spoke to Dave, the owner of ModernMusclePerformance and he is willing to work with someone to see what can be retrofit. So...... if there is anybody out in the area of Martinsville Virginia get over there and have him take a look.

The new Getrag 226 diff will not fit because the case casting is specific for the LX subframe, where the M215 just has a different rear cover used to fit their application. Additionally the 226 getrag requires new axles and main driveshaft as all the components are different. All that to say the 226 just will not work. The 215mm with upgraded shaft will take more power then most of us will make in the near future( unless someone comes up with a crazy TT kit or something) There are guys running into the 9's on these diffs.Originally Posted by Petej

The main reason the LX guys are moving to getrags as they come with LSD's from the factory and are slightly stonger as oppose M215 in SRTs that require a quaife or wavetrac LSD. Also the cost as a 226 whole diff is less than a quaife.
This is to our benefit as I just picked up a low milage M215 with a 3.06 from a Challenger for $400 shipped.

I am not positive, but I think 03's had a 210mm diff too. That might be why you popped a few. The DSS Axles are complete with hardened shaft splines on both ends of the shaft and super beefy CV's with M300 shafts. Complete new pieces end to end.Not too bad cost too. $1200 gets you a set that will go a long way for piece of mind.
Anyhow, One step at a time. Let me get the diff sorted first!

i do recall having info at one time that the diff/axles were upgraded after '03 but never investigated any further so you're likely correct about that...Originally Posted by KLR CLS

Just have not had the time to do the install.. hopefully soon. Jerry has the tuning sorted out.
general busy/laziness has gotten in the way. Maybe soon in the spring.

I am starting to toy with this idea as well....
I have been looking at differentials, and might be able to snag one locally for $500. It is a 3.06, but its a start! Might also be able to snag the TCM for another $100.
From what I gather - I might have a 210mm differential, which would mean that I would have to swap axles if I want to move to a 215, correct? Or would the unit out of the SRT just bolt straight in to my existing rear end?
If this might be as simple as a bolt it, I might try it this next week to see what happens!

It's not a simple bolt in. The diff carrier has different mounting tabs. You have to remove the ring and pinion from the 3.06 diff and swap into the MB housing, but this can only be done if you have a mettenger 215mm diff( which I beleive is 05 up). It's not the same as the simple bolt in swap in the LX cars. If it was I wold have already done it as I have a full SRT pumpkin in the shed.
You need to get new pinion nut, front and rear seal, crush washer, bearing and axle seals at a minimum. Also a good Idea to replace axle bearings and races. Install parts are like $500 plus labor to do it. OH, then Jerry has to tune your TCM.I have most of those parts, so I am still comitted to doing this, just going to wait for better weather.

Hey brotha, I know you sold your CLS, but do you still have the mopar pumpkin laying around with all the goodies
What gear did you end up with, a 3.06 and since I have an 06, I think I am in business!!!
