I dig some digging and talking to the gods, and I will jump at minimum to a 3.27
A 3.55 would be optimal and could back that down by running a taller slick if needed. with 711rwtq on tap, coming out the hole with either a 3.27 or 3.55 would be something to the effect of:

You are not taking into consideration traction and breaking other parts if you do hook. That 721wtq will be alot higher with a gear in it. I will be taking baby steps. If you hook and don't break (assuming no problems with tcu tuning) then it will be a great mod. I don't know why the E55 guys aren't all over this. Probably best bang for your buck after pulley/tune

I am going to do it brotha, based off my calculations entering our gear ratio's for 1-5th gear, and using my current 255-50-16, which is close to 26" tall tire, with a 3.23 gear is looks like this:
The switching to a MT ET Street 28 x 11.50-16 (28" tire), the calcs look like this:

What I would do is pick up another set of steelies, and have the 28" slicks on there, switching out at the track so see what works best.
Shifting into 4th at 115mph vs.124mph could make a vast difference, sure the 26" tall Hoosiers would come out the hole faster and harder, but I would be afraid the heat generated from going into 4th at 115mph could kill my top end considerably.

Craig - Given you have a dyno curve for the car, try to instead plot via excel the vehicle speed vs power for each of these combinations and see the area under the curve assuming a 130 trap. Looking at vehicle speeds directly will be misleading since with the 28" tall tire, you will likely be on the wrong side of your power band for a longer period of time. Taking the example above you will shift into fourth at 4700 rpm and trap at ~5200 which doesn't sound so great while adding in another shift. At least with the 26" you will be trapping at 5700. The tail end of the quarter is when you need to but the power down so make sure you won't hurt it but help. If you want, send me your curve and I'll put it together for you.

You can also use this excel chart to get a basic run down of what each tire/rear gear would yield:

The funny thing is Richmond didn't know the gears would work, I had to have them mic. it all out and send me the sizes so I could compare it.

What year is your E55? ^^^
Was it just a case of installing the gearset and having the TCM programmed?
I was planning to get a pulley and tune for xmas, but I think I'll do this instead now!

You can put 3.55 if you have a 00 to 02 models with Tiptronic shifter only,
and you need to reprogram your TCU as well,, our friend "2PRECISE" did that with his CLK55.....
