How many 55 motors have blow up in the last 3 years?

Just curious what the count is these days? Seems like a lot go kaboom`s in the winter, so how many?

I am aware of at least 8, I wont name call but this situation is much more likely when you do not get a dyno tune and go with a canned tune. ALWAYS ALWAYS DYNO TUNE, its all about Air Fuel Ratio!

100% INCORRECT!!!!!

Street tuning/data logging is the only way to get real world conditions.

How can you duplicate real world conditions on a dyno?

The only way is when the dyno cell is in a wind tunnel!

The majority of the blown engines issues were with DYNO TUNES!

I am sorry I am not getting the $1500 ticket in Illinois for 35 over and 45 over costs $3500 so you can data log. Dyno tune is by far the best most cost effective way, but you are vendor so you are correct. Canned tunes are CRAP, thats the point! Not true, majority of blown motors AMG to American cars, are from canned tunes!

In a perfect scenario you would want a dyno tune 1st and on the same day get a street/track tune as well. As Bruce said you can't duplicate a real world scenario on a dyno now I'm not a tuner but I would imagine that if you only base your tune on the dyno and then go out in the real world sucking in more air that it will throw off your AFR's resulting in your enging running lean due to not having the proper amount of fuel and then followed by

By "blown up" do you mean piston damage?
It seems that many are having the same type of failure.
Wonder if this is tuning related, or a lean condition due to the fuel rail design.

Wow only 8, seems a lot higher than that.. I guess a lot of people only share the good news.

Yep, if you have to go into the block, I called that "blown up".

For me personally, seems like last 12 months, there has been quite an increase in pistons popping. Not sure what is going on. If tunes are getting more aggresive or the motors are just prone to this with time.

Keeping fingers crossed over here. So far so good.

why would you think you only can tune on the street? why not tune at a 1/4 mile track or do a track day on a roadcourse and tune that way? no tickets and its as real as it gets

I'm not sure what blown up engine means but many of you know my broken piston thread. My #6 piston landing rings were broken off (bad tune). Approx 130,000 Miles.

I guess a decent follow up question would be how many stock motors have blown up?

I think a fitting question is to ask, How many motors popped after tuning on an inertia based dyno? Or software that was developed on an inertia dyno?

mine has not -- and i think I should be fine because i got a mild tune -- I think people have been getting a litttle tooo wild on the tunes--- advancing that timing too much and when something goes a little wrong it all goes wrong -- no room for error.

You bring up a great point... In the world of reflashes and tune swapping. I think it would be a deal breaker if your new tuner didn't make more power than the last. Some shops have simple solution to this age old money problem.... less fuel + more time = pay day. Its sad, but true.

We've had cars some in the shop that have been victims of this and we've had cars come in that we could do nothing on. You can run extremely strong and even have an aggressive map. Its all about being safe. There are lots of aggressive maps out there that run perfect. It's when (in some cases) people think another company can make more power.
