That is around 5-6 mpg...how on earth are you doing that unless you are simply doing a 113 mile top speed run until you run out of gas?
And while you guys are lamenting the prices in Europe compared to the US, I'm focusing on the really important stuff like how we can leave our families at home and not worry about a roving band of rebels running around killing our kids and raping our women folk like in Africa...

My E55 seems to be better on gas than our M5 does. And its obviously much better on gas than our CL600. But your right, the prices seem to be getting a little out of hand. I have been driving my M coupe as much as I can with its little I6 motor. Still fun, and good on gas.

Always use higher octane, especially those in a s/c AMG.
I don't fill up since more weight can mean lower fuel economy so I'm usually rolling with 8 gal or less. It's not about the cost or that I even care about fuel economy, but the less money I contribute to oil rich countries, the better IMO.
How your tuner managed to get you just 5.6mpg is beyond me. I get that in "Park" .

Just got gas yday and it was 4.21 a gallon. If the higher gas costs meant less cars on the road, I would be more then happy to pay it...but it just seems that traffic is just nastier then before. Maybe because everyone is pissed off at how much it costs them to sit in the traffic? lol
But who cares. The car is great! Enjoy and drive the hell out of it!

My wife last night said her next car will be a Prius. I laughed (quietly).

91 octane is the highest they have here in AZ, but every few weeks I buy a gallon or two of 109 Octane for $10.99 a gallon and with a full tank it's mixes to 95 or so.
I don't get miles per gallon I get SMILES per gallon.
I mean c'mon guys, you have a super car with four doors and you only live once, so why go cheap now?

Okay...I skipped to just responding because I was at a loss as to why this thread was on a Mercedes forum. I guess it is because, in my humble opinion, if the fluctuation in gas prices seriously impacts your ability to drive this car as you would like, then you need to stop reading....go take some pictures of your car...and then post it up for sale....NOW!! Because if spending an extra $50 or so per month on fuel is a strain, then you are already one step away from financial disaster anyway. I mean, let's say that gas was $2.00 per gallon, but you had an unexpected $800 repair on your car....following the same logic as from earlier, that repair would either cripple you, or it would go unrepaired. That is not being a jerk, that is just being real.
A Mercedes...especially an AMG....is not a requirement, it is a luxury. So for the sake of your own personal finances, I recommend that anyone impacted by fuel prices and AMG ownership take a serious and honest look at themselves, and think about if having this is the best thing for them long term. Seriously.

Saving moving
It not all about saving money ,nobody going to be saving any money , driving our Gas drinking, gas sensitive "MONSTERS" this Summer , I'm not going to drive up a $90 tank of 93 oct + gas "Clowning " around on the street every time I go any where in the car . Use Little , spend less to fill up ,,,, , they'll find out this Summer .... I've always top off my tank especially on a High Performance engine.. Also You got to pay to "PLAY" ,,, Get a 4 cylinder daily driver , grocery getter , errand runner , parking lot ding "who gives a Crap" ride ,,, Take your Babe out when u want to "PLAY" and "PAY" ,,,,

fwiw, I live in one of the wealthiest communities in the US. Even the uber rich complain about higher gas prices. There are tons of super high end cars here and nobody's selling their indulgences, just doing a lot of complaining.

What you're saying is correct. However if you do read through the thread, you'll see that nobody feels like they're being stretched financially but simply complaining about the higher gas prices. That's pretty normal. And nobody here sounds like they're planning to sell their car because of that extra expense.

Yeah, well I guess that's the way it's always been in America. It's partly why the economy is in the shape it is now. No incentives to save money but a helluva lot of incentives to spend it. I'm surprised at how many people take out loans to buy questionable used E55s. Oh well, borrowing money definitely makes the lenders wealthier. But unfortunately they aren't putting as much of that wealth back into the system like they used to do.
