That was Steve, (AMG Trainer) who brought the 2012 CLS63 AMG for us to clammer over. He discussed all the technical aspects of the engine. It was great, sorry that you couldn't have been there. It's a better looking car in person, then from photo. The interior is nice, rear seat head room is better then I expected. But if your taller then 6ft, you will have issues. The engine sounds great, and the exhaust note is slightly different but You know that their horses under the hood, and no turbo lag at all.

When the motor started up you could hear that distinctive ticking sound of the 6.2.

No, the car is just lower and wider. Well this engine has roller rockers, unlike the bucket tappets, that our m156 engines have. This car was brand new, as Steve just picked it up at the Baltimore Port of Friday, and brought it to our event. I wished that I had captured more of the exhaust note.

Maybe it was the fuel injectors making that sound. On my BMW the injectors are pretty loud and sound like tappets.....
Although these are direct injection, right(?) I'm not so sure I'm that excited about DFI in the long run (carbon issues already in other cars with DFI)

I have been coordinating this event for months, and it took a lot of coordination, from many peoplet to pull this event off. Not to mention my own personal time. Steve (AMG Trainer) took the time to drive down, and to present us with a 2012 CLS 63 AMG to marvel over. Only to have so little people show up. Frankly, I was disappointed.
But nevertheless, we discussed the new car in detail, and the inter-workings of the new 5.5 liter Bi-Turbo engine. He discussed all the technical aspects of the engine. The stop/start feature, which the car shuts down the engine when you come to a complete stop, then in the instance you touch the gas the car engine is restarted and your off. This helps safe on gas. Blind spot assist, lane keeping assist where the car vibrates the steering wheel to alert you, that your drifting over the line. The car is better looking car in person, then from photos. The interior is nice, rear seat head room is better than I expected. The engine sounds great, and the exhaust note isn't a deep as say the C63 or the SLS. Slightly different but, you know that there are some serious ponies under that hood, and there is "0" turbo lag with the torbo mounted directly to the exhaust manifold.

This is the feedback that, I received from the AMG Performance Center.
Given the threat of bad weather and the time of year the turnout was very disappointing but by know means unexpected. Thanks again for your hard work.
Management
Management understand that things can happen, and I gues that I'm taken it more to heart, because I spent so much of my own time putting this thing together. Coordinating food and beverages, and also with Steve, to ensure that he can support this event, and to bring us something special to gawk over. We had door prizes and gifts setup, but due to the very poor patronage we decided not to do it. Maybe next time. I guess when the weather warms up, it will be a different story. And the other things to it was, that it was on a Sunday instead of a Saturday. To their defense, Sunday is a slow day for them anyway. And for the record, Sunday wasn't my call. Besides the dealership didn't want our event interfering with their daily operation, so they gave us the entire AMG Show room to ourselves, which I thought was gracious.

Lost count that statistically speaking, Sunday is just not a good day for the car meets, imho Saturday is much better. On Sunday people go to the church in the morning, have early Sunday brunches and etc. Personally, I couldn't come over, cause my car ran into some problems and it is in dealership right now for some repair. Last year we had a meet in Tysons and we had like 20 people showed up with a one week notice, it was Saturday 11am.

i just have a feeling that in the future, they will give it one more chance and if turnout is the same, the rest of the events will be cancelled. Yes weather played a part, but if Steve could drive from Philly down here, we could have done the same looking out the window seeing it was just wet/rain.
It was nice to see the car(s) in person and a delight to hear the details from Steve. From mgt's perspective, is it a chance for them to see maybe one of us purchase these cars??

Your absolutely right about Sunday. And if it was up to me, I would change it to Saturday, but my hands are tied. I will though express your views to Managment so they know. We will see what happens.
