What size tires would you recommend for 20 inch wheels?

I'm posting here because it seems the E55 forum has a larger crowd of people with aftermarket wheel/tire set ups.

20 Inch Zauber Gettin wheels on '06 E350 Sport with E55 Front Conversion. Car will be having H&R sport springs installed.

Current tires on wheels are Falken FK452's. Need replacing. Fronts: 245/35-20 Rears: 275/30-20

So, what size should I go with. Stick with the current one, or go with something else.

Current specs on those tires are:

Fronts (245/35-20): 26.75 in diameter
Rears (275/30-20): 26.49 in diameter

Here is what they look like:

Considering going with this set up:

Fronts: 245/30-20: 25.78 in diameter
Rear: 285/25-20: 25.61 in diameter

Here are two vehicles that have made me consider it. Both are running Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires.

E350 on Eibach Pro-Kit:

ISS Forged E55:

I understand that the second option, the 245/30-20 and the 285/25-20 will both be running a thinner side wall - is this preferred, or should I stick with the original tire size?

Thanks!!

Personally Id go with the 285/25 option... most people running 20s do that setup, looks good, performs well!

It seems if I'm going to run my OEM suspension, to go with the original tire size. If I'm going to go the H&R or Eibach route, to go with the smaller diameter 245/30-20 and 285/25-20 option. Ironically the tires for this second route are more expensive, even though there's less rubber.

Wider tires with lower profiles are always $$

Man dont run oem suspension, looks like you can go 4x4 ing with that thing. Get the H&Rs and call it a day! Look at the black e55... looks so sexy lowered.

The answer to your question depends on how wide the wheels are. This was just discussed in this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...lp-please.html

There are some people that don't understand the meaning of tire aspect ratio, tire load index, or the safety risk of mounting a tire size on a rim the tire wasn't designed for; don't be one of them.

You look way too much into this stuff bro.. A 275 on a 10.5" wheel is no more ideal than a 275 on a 9.5" wheel..

OP, Go with a smaller sidewall and wider tire.. Looks way more aggressive..

The original poster hasn't even mentioned how wide his wheels are and you two are already quarelling over which size tire he should run.

Diff car but...

Offsets and tire choice will determine what you can and cant push.

I run:

20x9: 255x30
20x10 285x25

ET 29 in the front and ET 39 rear (what are you offsets?)

I run Nitto Invos as they have a more round sidewall versus lets say PS2 which is a squarewall and will rub on my car no matter what...

I looked on the back of the wheel to find the offsets - no luck Must be a japanese thing?

My tire shop is really pushing for me to go with the Hankook Evo V12's. I am also concerned with that tire being wider like the PS2's. The Falken's are too skinny though - not enough protection around the outer lip.

Do you feel the Nitto Invo's provide an adequate amount of protection? Are they quiet? I've been leaning towards the Vredestein's however am concerned with the lack of support. Hankook doesn't make a tire in 285/25-20 so that's probably a no go. My E350 will be lowered on H&R Sport's.
