What's the hottest you have ever seen the temperature reading on the AMG computer setting in the dash?

Mine was 117 tonight on the way home, after some spirited driving. The car was actually so hot, I wondered if something was awry. Heard some sort of fan runnig as I was pulling into the garage that I'd never heard before. LOL.

Mine has never read above 1 tick above 80*, even at 100* ambient. I would think I have a broken sensor, but it's always 0 bars when I start the car.

It had me thinking that it was a dummy gauge.

Unless you're talking about a different temp?

I think he's talking about the ambient temp reading. At least, that's the way I understood it.

I have the same experience except a few times I have seen 2-3 ticks over 80.

It is safe to say it wasn't 117 in KY today. If his outside temp was reading that high then something is definitely wrong with it. My outside temp was 73 today and it is surprisingly very accurate.

I'm talking about the temperature gauge that shows up in the middle of the speedometer, which flashes until it reaches 80 degrees when the car starts. Its found when scrolling through the on board computer.

Not the outside temperature, nor the temperature gauge (bars) to the far right on the dash (which never goes over 80 on my car either).

Whats the name for the temperature gauge I am talking about...is it engine oil temperature?

Not sure how to access oil temp on my 2005 without my OBD2 and laptop.

I know [thanks to Shardul] that the 03's have an "AC Rest" button on the dash that you can hold and scroll through for different readouts. I don't have that button on my 05.

Someone with a 2005 aware me as to how to find Oil Temp?

Hey man, I'm sure you are talking about the AMG screen in the dash, that only comes on the 07 E63+

I have that also, and i've gotten it up to 117 degrees Celsius also after spirited runs.

For you e55 guys, the e63's come with an extra menu you shuffle to from your steering wheel and its the whole center circle hologram thing, that shows a bunch more stuff

It's the oil temp and it's something you should know and keep an eye on....

Never go over 3k rpm until it stops flashing. Then the oil has reached operating temp. Normal driving it should be around 99 to 100 and occasionally hit 102-105. Real hard driving in manual, etc., and it'll get up to 110 plus. But watch it, because it's an important temp gauge.

The bar gauge on the right of the cluster is the engine operating temp (coolant) and it should sit in the lower middle end.

Outside ambient temp is in the IC menu. It fluctuates due to where the sensor is located and so you can't really ever get a true fix on the exact outside temp.

IIRC:

Hold rest button till a #1-6 is displayed.
Hit up and down arrows for temperature until you select 6.
Oil temperature should be displayed and should change on-the-fly.

+1 I have the same temp menu.

Mine has been up to 120 before. Hard driving in the middle of Florida summer. I called the AMG tech at my local dealer to find out when I should start to worry - was told over 130 for any length of time and I should bring it in.

I was thinking the same thing, but he was saying it was in his dash display, which was throwing me off since I don't have that feature.

Will it be displayed in the IC or climate control screen?

Bump for e55 owners....How do we monitor engine oil temperature and can we set it as the default in the gauge cluster (so that it always shows)?
