so i picked up a 2006 e55 about a month ago and finally got it to a place where i could do some flat out runs and i got up to 140mph no prob and it just stopped accelerating there.... there was plenty of power left but i couldnt get it to go past 140mph... i thought the electronic limiter was 155mph?

has anyone else encountered this?

Get a custom tune done and you can have your cars limiter removed.

But to answer you - its 155mph from the factory -- but it can be off 5mph --

So, yours is not normal --

My 06 also capped out on the dyno at 140 i was like wtf. I hooked up to star later to read the engine control unit programmed values and there it was limited at 230kph. Now I need someone to raise it to 300 so I can dyno my A/Fs on a full 4th gear pull.

Are you sure your IC pump is functional? Couldnt get past 140 mph when mine was defective...

My pump works ok(upgraded factory unit). I hover around 15-20F above ambient in 80F and spike to 40 above at wOT and quick recovery so in my case it's definitely not that. HTe coding info in star also confirms my case

Interesting. What tyre size are you running at the rear?

This is odd then. I was suspecting that perhaps you were running an odd tyre size that was sending inaccurate signals to your ECU et al. Since, however, your tyres are stock then it must be the pre-set limit in the ECU. I've only run mine to just over 150 mph. I'll have to max it out to see what it's actually limited at...

Hey gaspam, you need to check if your E55 is not limited with the Winter Tyres program in the computer settings. There are 3 speed settings, your car might be set at 140mph...?

Hope this helps.

Make sure you have appropriate tyres, have them checked and enjoy your Beast. 155mph is nothing for an E55 AMG Komp.

this could be likely since the car was previously owned in chicago where they get a long winter...

is that an option i can change in the user controls or is it something in star command that i need a tuner to change?

I am planning on going kleemann stage 2 or eurocharged stage 2 soon (havent decided yet) but i assume their software would fix this?

that only talks about top speed, nothing about car not getting past 140..

i know what the theoretical top speed is gearing limited and i know the technical 155mph electronic speed limiting...

i dont know why mine stops at 140mph ... and its not ic pump because its not like i llost any power as it held strong at 140mph with plenty RPMS left... even without a supercharger the power of the engine alone should carry this car past 140mph so i was thinking maybe certain cars had different electronic limits, but couldnt find any post on it

User controls on your steering buttons and get the visual from the centre of your speedo. Look under Vehicle or Conveinience I cannot remember off hand.

Enjoy

i just read on another forum that the w211 e55s dont have winter mode ?

"Winter mode was replaced by comfort mode on all 2003 mercedes models. It is essentially the same feature, only the name is different."

and my car always has the "S" button pushed so i wasnt in "C" mode... so i am at a loss again why my car limited at 140mph

I believe the only difference between S and C is 2nd gear starts, which helps in winter. but there is no 'winter' mode on an E55, maybe a previous owner had the Vmax set to 140 for some reason like a teen driver... or maybe it was set wrong at a dealer visit, lots of possibilities

thats what i was thinking - so i suppose either kleemann k2 or eurocharged kit will remove any speed limiting anyways in the ecu? not that i am gonna be hitting 140+ alll the time, but its just annoying to know its limited to that

i went into the engineering mode and i saw under the diagnostics a "HW WATCHDOG ERROR" .... that sounds like some sort of parental control.... anyone heard of that??

Look for "Winter Tires" in the Centre Speedo computer Display, switches on steering wheel, you will have to read it from your Owners Manual or Owners DVD for your W211 to find where your "Winter Tires" Setting is.

[Nothing in "Engineering Mode"]

Switch off the Winter Tires all-together.

This has nothing to do with the "S", "C", or "M" button on your gear shifter at all.
