Got warranty extension price quotes from dealer ... reasonable?

Important notes:
Car is a 2006 w/ 39800 miles
Still on original factory warranty

This is DIRECTLY through Mercedes Benz, not some 3rd party since I am still on factory warranty.

3yr/up to 75K miles ... $3900
2yr/up to 75K miles ... $3400
1yr/up to 75K miles ... $3100

Up to 75K, NOT 75K in addition to current miles.

Thoughts on the price and the options? I asked what it would be up to 100K miles and she said $6,250

She also claimed these are the "discounted" prices, whatever that means..

I have a similar car ( '06/43,000 miles) and just bought a Fidelity 5/60 for $4700...It's 60,00 more miles NOT upto 60,000...

UPTO 75,000 miles is just plain crap. Get a Fidelity and be done with it..

I guess that's the price to pay when I'm going straight through Mercedes.

Up to 75K sounds almost unreasonable for the price.

My original warranty runs out on March 31st - exactly a week from today, so I have to make a decision fairly quickly.

Fidelity is the only other option I see other than going with this through Mercedes directly.

Dealers mark it up 50% almost.

Fidelity is good and had it on my RS6.
This time I went with NAC
Just got mine and my car is at 30,000 miles and it covers it up to 80,000 or 2/19/2015 for $2,506.00.
One reason its cheaper is mine is a 2008 E63 not a E55 with a supercharger.
Details below,

Pinnacle Protection Plan
The Pinnacle Protection Plan is our most comprehensive protection option. It is so comprehensive it is too time consuming to show what it covers, it simply covers everything that is not listed in the exclusion section on your contract. Pinnacle coverage can be written on autos 3 years old or newer with 60,000 miles or less on the odometer.

So can I buy a NAC policy directly, or does it have to go through the dealer (or reseller?)

I will be taking delivery of my 2006 E55 (25000 original miles) next week. The place I bought it from offered me the NAC Pinnacle Plan, which could extend me out to almost 100,000 miles and 5 more years. It's tempting!

The only thing I noticed is that "shock absorbers" are listed in the exclusions area, so i wondered if that means that AIRMATIC failures would be excluded? The dealer insists that this insurance would cover it, and that they have a customer who successfully claimed it and was paid.

It about $4400 for the 60 month / 75000 (additional) miles plan..... Should I go for it, or roll the dice and keep that $$$ in the bank and pay my own repairs?

You guys need to speak to Bruce at Becks Imports. He is a NAC broker. Great guy very knowledgeable. He will hook it up for you. Just did my extended warranty on Monday.

This is about right for the Mercedes Benz factory warranty extension. All the other warranties people are talking about are aftermarket warranties. You can only buy the Mercedes ELW if you are the original owner and the car is still under factory warranty.

This has been discussed a million times here. Do a search.

If you want the Mercedes Benz extended factory warranty (aka "ELW"), and you qualify, then shop around at different dealers. Some offer better pricing. Plus you can bounce offers off of the different dealers. Some owners here have found decent discounts depending on the dealership.

I am not the original owner, but bought it from the original owner.

They still gave me quotes

3yr/up to 75K was the best price quote I found ... and I must have called at least a half dozen Mercedes dealers within an 50 mile radius.

Those prices look pretty close to what the Dealer quoted me as well for the MB extended plan. My car is also a 2006 but with 48 K on the clock.

I ended up going with the CNA warranty for an additional 48 months and 75 K for $3,800 with a $200 deductible. Might not suit everyone but I'm retired now and don't drive much so it works for me. Still, I'll be over the 75K before the 48 months are up and then the E55 will be replaced with something else.

Re: Warranty Quote

Those prices are pretty competitive, I'd go with it.

HERE'S THE TRUTH

For the record, AFTERMARKET warranties are generally about 50% cost, 50% mark-up. A $4000 warranty costs the dealership approx. $2000. It should be easy to get a discount on one of these...the finance manager will be happy to sell you this one & make twice as much money as he would on an ELW.

The Mercedes-Benz ELW mark-up is between $600-$1000, depending on the model.

For example, a 36 month/160,000km ELW (maximum term available) is $3480 on a regular E-Class. The dealer COST is actually $2680.

That's 22.9% mark-up, 77.1% cost.

If you can get your dealer to discount a Mercedes-Benz ELW $200-$400, you're lucky.
