What is the best DRAG set up- wheels and tires
I am looking to buy some wheels and tires for the drag strip. Please let me know what tire brand and size you run and also what type and size wheels are you running. I am thinking about the old stock e class wheel with a Hoosier drag radial.

Try and go 16's with a hoosier or SLICK

I run 275/45/17 hoosier DOT Drag's. Plenty of tire for 550whp. Smaller diameter tires will help with the overall effective final drive gearing, helping the 1/4 times.

if you have the 4 piston calipers spacers are needed for the 16" rims. these rims are the lightest m/b wheels made tipping the scales at a mere 13 lbs

Awesome. Thats one problem with the hoosiers, they say D.O.T approved, but on the label says do not use for extended or highway driving! I think they are only nylon corded too, thats why they way so little compared to the other DR's

BEST setup IMO will be a MT ET DRAG SLICK with a real skinny setup up front. I'd call CCW. Start at 15psi hot and work your way down.
If you aren't going to use a skinny up front then the next best setup is MT ET DRAG RADIAL. That tire is super sticky for a drag radial... I've run 1.4 60ft's on that tire on a HEAVY IRS street car. I'd start that at 15psi as well and work my way down to 10psi as I felt comfortable.
Tallest tire you can fit on the smallest diameter wheel that fits over your brakes. Width isn't as important as height when you are trying to cut a good 60ft.

Best answer all day. Diameter is more important than width and will give you a larger footprint for better traction. Downside is you'll need a gear change to take full advantage.

A tall tire will hurt your top end.if the mt came in 265/35/18 they would be the best tire for stock wheels.you need to rev 3rd gear as high as possible to get a decent trap speed.
Our cars rev to over 130 in 3rd.you need a shorter tire with max grip.

I think you guys are on to something here. Following this logic wouldn't you be better of with the MT ET Streets in 245/40/18 on stock wheels than the 265/40/18? It would be 25.8" diameter versus 26.5". Wouldn't that allow you to get more use out of 3rd gear where our cars pull like banshees? Plus the smaller size is 3 pounds lighter...

That would be ideal if I changed out at the track, but I run my drag radials all summer long and daily drive my car so I need the ability to drive in rain. If you've never tried to drive pure slicks in the rain...fuhgeddaboudit

If any of you need the adapters to install the 16" Mercedes wheels for your drag set up please feel; free to give me a call. They will allow them to fit with the E55 and the C63.
