Check engine light, Small evap leak detected

So my cel pops up yesterday and I got it scanned. My tech says its a small evap leak but didnt tell me the specific code. Checked gas cap, its tight. Where else can I start checking for leaks? Will I hurt the car in anyway driving with this cel for the next couple days?

Have you had any work done on the car lately?

Nope nothing has been worked on lately, gonna try a new gas cap. Hopefully it solves the problem.

Most likely your charcoal canister shut-off valve is the problem, the gas cap usually lights up the major leak code.

does ur garage smell like gas? does it smell like gas after u fill up anywhere near the car? if so it could be a fuel pump leak underneath the back bench seat.

I had the same code pop up couple weeks ago and the dealer ran a bunch of test and found a puddle of gas under my back seat. I just ordered the fuel sender unit for 300 bucks each and had my mechanic replace it. Dealer wanted $2,300. Light hasn't been on since and I saved $1,700

Have you seen the gas tank leak thread? You have one of the common symptoms.

Go fill up your gas tank and park the car in the garage overnight. If you smell gas in the garage by morning....then welcome to the club. You may have gas tank/fuel sender problems.

The evap leak code is a symptom of leaking sender units? I get no gas smell at anytime but I'll do the check tommorrow.

I have fuel leak issues and get this code. I don't really get the smell inside the car, though. I get the fuel smell outside the car and sometimes some noticeable fuel drips on the ground.

It is part of the evaporative emission system of your car. The fuel system of your vehicle contains hydrocarbon fuel vapors that are stored in a canister until they can be introduced into the engine so as not to be released to the atmosphere and the purge valve is what is used to accomplish this or 'purge' the vapor canister and if it is malfunctioning it will usually turn on the 'check engine' light to alert you of a problem.

Just replaced mine too..
