Cheap Mobil 1 0W-40

Just a heads up, O'Reilly Auto Parts has Mobil 1 oil on sale for $4.99 a quart. I bought 48 quarts of 0W-40 to stock up.

www.oreillyauto.com

Check out the flier add. There is a limit of 24 quarts per visit.

For you old timers, O'Reilly used to be Hi-Lo long ago.

Happy Hunting

All the locations in Texas seem to have the $4.99 price.

I looked up an O'Reilly (KRAGEN) in Riverside CA and they have the same sale price. Where are you located in SoCal?

Check out the sales flier for the good price.

Damn, 48 seems excessive don't you think? Lol. How often do you change your oil ( time wise )?

Flight Test, I am in Orange County. I tested Orange County and also Los Angeles County. I'll play around with it right now, thank you for the tip.

Edit: I give up, I'm getting them anywhere from 8-10 dollars.

You have to go to the store to get the price, I don't think it is avaialble mail order.

I hope to god you're not putting in 12 qts, since I believe it only takes 9. My V12TT doesn't burn hardly any oil between 5K mile changes.

Oh wait, I think you might be right. Don't some of the older ones with large oil coolers take more?

Either way, $4.99 is a great price. I just stocked up with 18 qts at my Napa, who had the same price.

It's is. Weird that the SL65 only takes 9 though.

There was but then somewhere along the line they seemed to back track to the 0-40.

Apparently the concern was phosphorus hurting the cats but then they figured it was okay. 5-40 has less phosphorus and the 0-40 has more. But phosphorus is the protecting element in Mobil 1. 5-40 is called ESP "Emissions System Protection." I guess it's either fry your cats or not protect the motor, LOL.

To hard to keep up with.... I just go by the current 229.5 spec for the M156 and not the 229.51. The 229.51 was released later primarily for diesel motors and emissions components. My dealer uses 0-40 with the M156.

Engine Type
113 229.5 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40
155 SLR 229.3 5W-50
156 229.5* or 229.51 0W-40, 5W-40
272 229.5 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40
273 229.5 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40
275 229.5 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40
642 229.51 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40

*156 engine using 229.5 should use only SAE 0W-40 oil

You are correct.

They ADDED the 5W-40 ESP to the existing 0W-40 European Formula.

They never eliminated the use of the 0W-40. For the M156 I am absolutely sure of this.
