Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but I'm looking into doing a project like this, and I was wondering if there was any way to add armrests to a seat conversion like this?

Actually - adding armrests on what I did wouldn't be that tough. Because I made the base out of 1/2" plywood, adding bolt on office chair arms would be easy. I actually have armrests sitting in my basement from a computer chair that I could put on (arm rest...vertical metal bracket that goes down and had a 90 degree bend and bolts on) But I don't think I'd do it.
What I still need to do is find a shorter cylinder for the base. I'm over 6' tall and with the platform I made and the height of the seat plus the cylinder...my feet barely touch the ground.
As a stand alone chair the seat is so much more comfortable than you would think. Seriously. AWESOME.
Pearlpower - if you have a spare Z seat sitting around, DO IT! Those seats ROCK!

Very cool. BUT, my first question would be..... WHY? LOL
But then again, my second question would be...... WHY NOT?

Very Creative. I wonder where my passenger seat went !! Greg told me not to worry about it, weight savings is more important !!!
With Georgia Tech down the street, you could really get the chair geeked out. I am just waiting for you to say you installed some cut-outs !!
Great Job.

$150 was a STEAL for that thing. I'm finding E320 seats for $400. And I'm finding Porsche seats from "junk yards" for $1,000.
Did you have any luck getting the electronics working? Or did you not bother? If I can't get those to work I might try to go with an older MB seat, maybe a 560SEL or something.
