Reassure me about a 2005 e55 AMG with 70k+ miles.
New user here... how is everyone?
Like the title says... Im looking into a 2005 e55 AMG. The car(s) have at least 70k miles on each of the ones ive seen. Would you recommend me buying one of these cars with that many miles?
What are some of the things I should look for?
Also, is it worth it to buy an extended warranty from somewhere?
Thanks for the help

Firstly, it all depends on your budget.. Warranty and lower miles, Yes if your budget allows for it..70k is fine though if it has been maintained well.. Get records and history of the car.. If the IC pump hasn't been replaced, then it is most likely garbage..Airmatic is also something that should be checked.. Bring the car somewhere for a PPI, before you purchase it too.. Good luck on your search

Find one with fewer miles w/CPO and pay to extend the warranty to 7/100,000. That will get you the PPI (always a good idea) from the selling dealer.

Do as much research as you can. This site is a good place to start. At the end of the day, it's a crap shoot at best. You can never know what condition a car is in, unless you have owned it for some period. A PPI is going to maybe find the blaring issues. Drive it, and get as much history as you can. Do your homework here and search until you can't search anymore. Then search some more. There is a wealth of good info.
Don't be scared with issues you find here, just educate yourself on what can happen. Airmatic, pulley's, IC pumps, noisy pano roofs, leaky oil plugs, fuel leaks, etc... Some have never had issues, some have a lot. Just be prepared to spend money if needed. Get a warranty if you can, but at the end of the day, they have run the numbers and I am guessing they will make money. Your call.

2006 E55 AMG --old cars -- E39 M5, 2.7tt Audi S4, E36 M3 **Ducati 996, 748
I think you should get teh alternator checked -- its an expensive repair and can go bad. Also, motor mounts. I/C pump is a cheap fix. no big deal.

To be blunt, if the cars you are considering are all at 70K miles either you aren't trying very hard in your search, or maybe you have chosen an unrealistically low budget to acquire a car.
As you spend more time here you'll see that an E55 will "cost" you..... Either by getting a good low mile example with a warranty, or by getting a well-used, low dollar example that will cost you thousands in repairs and refurbishment.
Warranty, warranty, warranty!!! Did I mention warranty?

A "cheap" E55 can become an expensive one in a hurry.... So don't be seduced by a low purchase price at the exclusion of other factors.
Good luck in your search!

I just bought (two months ago) a used 04 with 90k on it and the car is flawless except some minor scratches and it needs one mesh grille on the diver side but I did my homework and searched for over six months. I say go for it as long as its a solid car.

I would say find one with a warranty as well, just for piece of mind... I picked up mine at 66k and tried to get it CPO'd, but issue is..there's a Renntech Stage 5 package on it. Lol. So no go with that. Anyways, I'm sitting at over 103k on it now and so far the only major issue was the supercharger belt tensioner pulley fell off...
