Shipping U.S. Spec E63 Overseas

Does anyone have any experience shipping a U.S. spec car overseas, specifically to Dubai? Anything I need to look out for or any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why not? Could be a number of reasons. Maybe he got a job there and wants to bring his car. Maybe he's selling his car to somebody there (when I sold one of my older Porsches a while back, I had an offer from a German guy living in Dubai...)

It's nothing unusual.

I've been working over here for a few years and I'm tired of driving a provided company car - Nissan Altima. The prices of cars here are somewhat inflated. It is actually cheaper for me to just buy the car from an online dealer in the U.S. and ship it over - even taking into account shipping and import taxes. This also means the car is U.S. specs, so I will have no problems bringing it back into the U.S. if I decide to leave here in the next year or two. If I buy the car here in Dubai, it will most likely be Gulf Spec and that would create problems trying to import it back to the U.S. There are U.S. spec cars for sale here but I haven't had any luck finding the exact model I wanted with the exact options. In addition, I trust the U.S. online dealers, with verified ratings, much more than I trust the used car sales companies here.

It is actually a pretty normal and quite common thing to do - especially for people affiliated with the military or government.

Any tips would be great.

If you're going to buy from a dealer here, then I'd ask them and also get them to deal with the paperwork, etc.. There are lots of specialty dealers who sell overseas often and are well versed in doing so; many cars from here end up out of the country for the reasons you mention (pricing being the biggest.)

It's done a lot so it shouldn't be that big a deal. The guy that wanted my Porsche said he has done it before a few times. If you don't get any help here, you can pm me and I'll pass along his contact info....

EDIT: never mind, I see you have some good help. I was going to say that there are a lot of MBWorld members here from the UAE and KSA, etc..

I understand now Thing is though I've been to Dubai as I have a friend living there, the car prices are actually not bad. Don't know about new cars though. It can be done though you just have to work everything out before you ship. The cost mount fast. Anyways good luck.

Car prices aren't that good here anymore. My friend and I have scoured the car souks (similar to outdoor market) and by our calculations and comparisons the cars here are about 20-25% more than a similarly optioned model in the States. I'm really only talking about high-end cars like AMG's though. You could probably find some pretty good deals on everyday cars like a Camry or Altima, but I wanted something that will push me back in my seat and get my blood flowing. Even if I had found a decent deal locally, I most likely would have still purchased from the U.S. so that I could take it back there later on with no issues.

The E63 seems like a perfect fit for my situation. It will allow me to destroy my friend in his Evo and still cruise leisurely from the grocery store with my son in the backseat and a trunk full of groceries.

I've already found the car, sealed the deal, and arranged the shipping. The car is scheduled to be placed on a ship around the 4th of May. It's going to be a long 35 days waiting for it to arrive - should be worth the wait though.

Any helpful tips would be great.

Don't jump the gun on an EVO....

They are fast little buggers.....I have friends with all the JDM muscle lineup.. I myself have a 93 Rx7 and the JDM muscle are fast car with basic upgrades.
Before you ship the E63 make sure you do all the upgrades you want and then ship.
