What size S/C crank pulley would you buy??

For those that are looking to buy or upgrade their S/C crank pulley, what would be your prefered pulley MM size? 172mm-195mm?? A few years ago, 172 was the go to size but just curious what size these days?

I know I started small and upgraded fast.

If I had some new cool high flow ported heads, I would be looking in the 190-200 range!

But alas I don't (yet)

Depends what your goal is.I would say 182mm tops for a drag car and 175-78 for a street car.

I started small also and settled for a 178

well after i figure out my boost leak...

I think I would move up to a 190mm. That might be the maximum I will go into unless my datalog can proof otherwise haha!

But I started with a 180!

So there's still problem with heat even with your top mount set up?

Hmmm I like the 185, but with a 25 shot of nitrous for cooling , I would do a 200!

I think anything over 180 and you are gonna kill yourself on the mile.

It's gets ugly IAT wise pretty fast after that.

Just my humble.

**edit LOL, just read your sig and noticed you are already running a 185. Ummmmm, okay soooo moving on.

After much debate I went with a 178, mainly because I figured if I went smaller I would always wonder what a bigger pulley would feel like...

In hind sight I really wish I went with a Kleemann (168mm) set up. The bigger pulley causes traction issues (even with an lsd and PS2's) because are cars get on the boost so quickly. I am fighting with IAT's at the track and the bigger pulley does delay spool up slightly.

That said, on the highway in the 60-130 range the car is a freakin BLAST!

lolol Funny thing is I thought the same thing until I saw his cooling setup. Add the new heads that flow like nothing I have ever seen and he is going to be good with 190+

heat isn't the issue and what I'm more concerned about is supercharger efficiency.

With the stock supercharger I'm not sure how much we can push before the supercharger runs out of air.

With my setup I'm pretty comfortable running a lot bigger pulley because with a 180mm from 60-130 on a 3rd gear WOT with 65 degrees ambient I haven't seen anything higher than 110 without meth. Depending how many back to back runs I do I've seen as low as 100-105 avg with the IATs.

With my water/meth setup in conjunction with the topmounts it has never gone above 80f under WOT.

I would love to see the results if people start trying 200mm crank pulley. (I'm guessing Brooke haha) I know of members running 195mm but I'd like to take it one step at a time and log everything properly before I jump into the un-chartered area.

I already run the 185 and no heat issues in the mile or 1/4 mile. We need to be paying attention to % (percent), S/C bearing & rotor speed, not just a number like 200mm. Going from a stock 155mm to a 168mm is a much larger % change than 168mm to 180mm, although both are 12mm increase. Have you thought of that?

A 190mm pulley is only "about" a 20% increase in pulley size over stock. I think the 185mm pulley is a great all around day to day size pulley. Part throttle repsonse is a lot better than the 172-180mm pulley size.

If you have upgraded cooling, great flowing exhaust and even ported heads, then a 25% blower overdrive, I would have no problems with. So we are talking 205mm. Has to be custom made and rotating mass has to be kept to stock weight or less. I bet part throttle would be brutal!

As far as traction goes, I have no traction in second gear at part throttle but it is fun!! I just change tires, when it comes time to make the car pay it dues!

Only thing I am going to add though. (I can't say his name or he gets mad) But one of our famous 10 sec madman (running 180mm) thought it would mean even lower 10's with a 185mm pulley. Nope, never ran close to his fastest with it.

He doesn't have even close to your mods, but did have trunk cooler packed with ice so who knows.

Wish there were "quick change pulleys". I would be into trying to dyno all the way up the sizes and see what hp changes happen.

+1 In terms of track results, I think the 180 mm produced the quickest/fastest 1/4 mile results so far.
