Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what whines when I turn the car on?
Every E55 I've heard has a distinct whine when you turn in on when cold that mostly goes away when it warms up. I thought it was my power steering pump until I see that ALL E55's do the same thing. So then I imagined it was the supercharger...but then I saw that there are other MB models that also have the same whine and they aren't supercharged.
Can anyone tell me exactly what is making the noise and where it's located? I ask because before I remember it would go completely away when warming up. Now, however, I can still hear it 100% of the time ( very faint ) unless I accelerate the car considerably ( probably because the engine sound drowns it ).

You can check if it's the Air pump by just pulling the relay and seeing if the sound goes away. My bet is on the power steering pump though, because the sound intensifies when you (I) turn the steering wheel.

When I turn the wheel it doesn't change. When I accelerate the engine it DOES change. pulling the fuse is a good idea though. Anyone know what fuse it is and where the pump is located?

Pull the panel off of the left side of the dash, where the dash meets the door panel, and there is a document in there with all fuses and relays labeled.

Lemme check for you
EDIT: looked @ the diagram and its not on there, meaning its in the engine cmpmt. not the passenger/trunk fuse panels. narrows it down slightly
