****HELP A BROTHA OUT****

Gents,

I've just been informed that my Mercury Platinum Warranty DENIED my front right airmatic strut.

I am at the mercy of the forum, what the hell do I do?? They say that struts are not covered. I paid an arm and a leg for the thing and it's been great but I am in shock that they denied it. Does this sound accurate to you guys??

Is there a way to submit the claim to have them cover the part?? Can I argue with them??

I know people are getting them from Parts.com, any other sources for the part??????

though that sucks donkey *****, it does make sense. It's a wear item. It would be like trying to warranty tires or brakes.

guess it's time to read the fine print before we sign up to spend thousands in the event of breakage.

Technically every part of your car is a wear item, but you can never compare shock absorbers/struts to tires or brake pads. Tires and break pads wear out consistently, heck, even the owners manual tells you to inspect them and replace if necessary. Shocks don't fall into this category since they SHOULD last at the VERY LEAST 100,000 miles unless you get a huge pot hole and screw them up. Heck, the only cars I've ever had to replace shock absorbers on ( due to them being faulty, not because I just wanted to upgrade ) were cars with over 100,000. And where I live it's like living on the moon ( I already busted one of my 1 month old wheels and had to replace it. )! Airmatic struts aren't exactly cheap wear items that require a replacement interval such as tires or brakes.

Do they wear out? Sure. But so does your engine, tranny, and just about every other thing in the car.

This forum is definitely the best ever!!! I would have no clue how to do most stuff on my car if I did not find at least some ideas to point me in the right direction from searching. BTW, can I get some love also?! LOL JK

They don't cover it, It was the first question I asked when I was looking for a warranty. It didn't seem worth it to me so I never went through with the warranty, hope I ain't kicking myself later on down the road.........

Go through your warranty coverage documentation with a fine tooth comb. My aftermarket warranty isn't the best, but I upgraded it to their top package which specifically states that air suspension components are covered. There's always room to argue with them and at least in California, there are various government commissiions you can appeal to if you feel the warranty/insurance company is not living up to their legal obligations.

You might want to still check your warranty's fine print. Maybe get pushy with them, too. "Platinum" warranty? You'd think it would give you full coverage like the MB warranty does.

Arnott only sells rebuilt front struts and not any rears. Eventually the rears will go out too, and they're even more $$. Maybe shop for an all-inclusive warranty (if the Mercury has a pro-rated refund policy and you can get your money back.)

For people still under factory warranty that are about to expire, the MBUSA extended warranty covers everything (it's just an extended factory warranty) and also does refunds if you later don't want it anymore. The cost isn't much more than the aftermarket ones since there are MB dealers who sell them with pretty decent discounts over retail.

check the Mercury Platinum Warranty contract, the one you signed. It probably states that struts aren't covered.

Just saying

Not disagreeing at all. Just looking at it from their perspective. I agree with you, but they probably save thousands by ruling the struts as wear items.
