“[our] Max ATF is not recommended…for Mercedes Benz 236.12 & 236.14” applications.
Having successfully utilized Fuchs 4134 in several of these gearboxes makes it worthy of personal recommendation. YMMV :)

The Fuchs is just MB fluid, same stuff from what I have read. Since you brought it up, can you offer to everyone a recommended place to purchase?

Fuchs 4134 is ~$11 a liter from RM European. No sales tax and free FedEx (overnight to Hermosa Beach) shipping.
It’s about half that from my friendly jobber.
Good luck with your build. :y

Although some Chrysler cars may have the same transmission, I believe the torque converter is different. Therefore, just because Chrysler recommends a fluid for the 722 doesn't mean it is MB compatible.
The Shell says "It is a premium semi-synthetic ATF designed for use in Mercedes Benz 7 speed transmissions." The word "semi" in that sentence bothers me.

In fact, just ordered 12 bottles for under $30 delivered. Assuming it gets here and is correct, I won't be buying ATF for a long time.

Synthetic Base Stocks
Synthetic motor oils are man made oils from the following classes of lubricants:
Polyalphaolefin (PAO) = American Petroleum Institute (API) Group IV base oil
Synthetic esters, etc = API Group V base oils (non-PAO synthetics, including diesters, polyolesters, alklylated napthlenes, alkyklated benzenes, etc.)
Hydrocracked/Hydroisomerized = API Group III base oils. Chevron, Shell, and other petrochemical companies developed processes involving catalytic conversion of feed stocks under pressure in the presence of hydrogen into high-quality mineral lubricating oil. In 2005, production of GTL (gas-to-liquid) Group III base stocks began, the best of which perform much like polyalphaolefin. Group III-base stocks are considered synthetic motor oil only in the United States;[13] elsewhere they are not allowed to be marketed as "synthetic".

I will make it a point to purchase from them again in the future. EDIT., just went ahead and placed a backorder with them. Good people.

Ryder called after placing an order. They have some in stock. However, there were 10orders ahead of mine and only have 12qts left to send out to me. They will backorder the other 12qts when more come in. Will wait next day or so for them to arrive.
I spoke in depth with Chris from Royal Purple.
First off, Royal Purple is aware of the confusion on their site/bottles and they have already changed the bottle labeling. All new bottles now going out the door state 722.6 236.12 (NAG1) and prior compatible. Notice not 236.14.
As stated here and elsewhere, those that have used the NEW MB OEM fluid have noticed shifting issues/soft shift ,etc when doing a complete flush in their 722.6 236.12 and prior transmissions. There is a reason for this.
The new MB OEM fluid is a lower viscosity fluid for fuel consumption purposes. MB states it is backwards compatible with the older transmissions such as the 5sp units, with the added issue of softer shifts,etc......
The Royal Purple viscosity is comparable to the older 5sp MB fluid which many seem to favor over the new MB fluid in the 5sp trans.
So if I were to throw something out there, the Royal Purple is a better fluid for the older 5sp transmissions vs. the new MB fluid. Makes sense?
Not enough field testing exist yet on the older viscosity fluid in the newer 722.9 transmission to allow them to place a stamp of approval on the product.

I bought transmission fluid dipstick from Amazon. It has min & max level marks at (2) temperatures, 80°C (180°F) and 25°C (77°F) respectively. With the engine warm my temperature gauge reads about 80°C.

they have this now for $59 per 6 QT and free 2 day shipping if you have amazon prime
I picked up the Valvoline Max at my local O'Reilly's for $7.49 a qt. A few other threads I read recommended this for easily sourcing locally.
They sell the 3403-m-115 equivalent oil for 4.18 per quart or 50.23 case
You can also order the newer Shell ATF 134, which is the 236.12 and 236.314 oil for 5.51 per quart.
alternatively, you can order the more expensive Fuchs Titan 3353 which is the same oil as the shell 134
