sticky residue from 3m tape
I removed my CF mirror covers, and it left the sticky residue from the 3M tape behind. What product should I use or what is the best way to get that film off?
I asked in the detailing sub-forum, but getting a response there seems to be moving slower than a virgin on prom night
Should I try hot water and dish washing soap?

A hair dryer and gentle peeling might get it off. I would hate to use a solvent on my paint but I know lighter fluid will take it off in no time.
edit: oh yea, forgot about this stuff called "Sticker Shock" - it's made for removing bumper stickers from auto paint but should work on that 3M stuff. You can get it at auto parts places.

Brake Parts Cleaner
"Pre" spray (check Eastwood Co)
Goof Off
I've had good luck with Brakeleen but it's easily the most aggressive of the three.... spray on a rag and test in an inconspicuous area first. The "Pre" spray contains xylene IIRC, so it's just a good grease, oil, adhesive remover. Used primarily to prep surfaces just before laying down fresh paint.
I'd use my finger to smear off as much of the adhesive material as possible before trying the solvents. Even if it smears, you'll have less actual adhesive to clean away in the next step.

That's true...forgot about WD-40. It's got a lot of oddball uses like that.
Supposedly peanut butter works for removing chewing gum from hair.... smear a little on the car and let the dogs out into the garage to help you clean it! HA!
